Ok, so as the entire universe may be aware of, DNF is FINALLY out! I've been completely on the fence for buying this game from steam, it looked kinda funny but all the "sexual marketing" such as Duke Nudem and (at least semi) nudity within the game itself made me a little wary, ive seen this kind of thing before...
And if it wasnt that it was crass toilet humour. I dont have a problem with such things by the way but I didnt see them back it up with much else. And since I never pre-ordered it, I wasnt allowed to play the demo (by the way, who thought up of that dumbass idea?!)

Anyway, my point is, whats it like?? Is it worth a buy? I'm talking mainly about the pc version, but console gamers, I want your opinions too.

Though I dislike it, I can definitely see some things that developers could learn from. The 'not taking yourself so seriously' thing is excellent and I'm glad some games are doing just so. I'm looking at you Saint's Row 3. Also, the ability to do more than just shoot and press switches in first person, like that autograph you sign made me laugh, or drinking a beer...etc. I wish more people would do that.

Mostly everything else is horrid, but there was some pretty neat things in it if take time to look.

Same here.

But I may have the advantage of having not played a Duke Nukem game before outside of a demo here and there. From what I could tell from the demo, it's definitely a game you don't want to play if you're looking for cohesive and engaging story elements with memorable characters and an immersive soundtrack.

*Snerk*

Was it ever?

Among other things, I own a copy of Duke Nukem: Time To Kill, featuring time travel by 'the aliens that Duke's been mopping the floors with all this time'. Really, it's always gonna be "We have a setting and a basic plot, but it's still down to 'kill the buggers on the screen'.". And really, if you know that going in, I don't see the problem.

Let me say what I said in another DNF Thread.

So, it's finally here, never thought I'd see the day.

And it's goooood, although, it has some of the worst graphical/performance issues I've experienced on any game running on a console, but damn if I'm not having fun.

The gunplay is a lot of fun, (just wish you carry more than two weapons - really dumb decision there), and Duke's humour never gets old. I'm really liking the music, some throwbacks to the old, just generally a cool rock beat going on all the time. Some very funny references, I only just realised the one near the beginning was a parody of Christian Bale's rant a few years ago.

So yeah, it was never going to live up to 14 years of development, but this is still a lot better than most games that go through development hell and much more fun than most FPSs these days.

Having played it for a while, I can honestly say i'm impressed. Even with the short amount of time Gearbox had to revive it.

There's so many easter eggs and references, and I love the amount of interactivity you can have to get your Ego bar up.

The one liners are classic Duke too.

As a Duke fan of 20 years, when I got this in my hands today, it was a great moment, and Gearbox haven't let me down.

I'm not looking through Rose Tinted Spectacles, and admit, yes, it isn't perfect and could have been a lot better, but you want a serious shooter, then go and get The Orange Box or BFBC 2 or whatever.

As mentioned previously, Gearbox can now work on a Duke title we will be proud of.

Always bet on Duke.

Bought it.

Played it.

Hated it.

Finished it.

Uninstalled it.

All within 8 hours.

Don't waste your money on that crap.

A lot of people have been really negative towards it, but I myself am having a total blast with it. I'm not even an old fan of Duke, and I had no expectations whatsoever. It's just a silly, fun time, for me anyway.

It's not incredible, how can it be? But it's almost certainly not "shit". I'm not disappointed in the slightest. And I'm the most critically-minded person I know.

Cancel you're preorder now. If you want swearing, awesome weapons and originality then buy BulletStorm instead. DNF is just abysmal.

It was pretty bland, I'm gonna' trade it in tomorrow, that way I get a better game and someone who want's to try it (But not pay full price) can get it.

I sort of wish it didn't come out, so we could all keep making fun of it. Seems like they took all the originality and fun out of it.

I doubt I will be getting it anytime soon, if at all

I just never really liked Duke as a character. And I hear the load times are really bad.

Though, looking at the Amazon ad to the bottom right, I do find it funny that it is offering me sales of old Duke Nukem games, including DNF.
