Many have complained that Skyrim's RPG elements were lacking due to the removal of the stat system.
Others felt perks allowed you to distinguish your character in more meaningful ways.
A recent thread brought up the subject again, so I will now ask the question in poll form for everyone's enjoyment.

Both. The leveling system from before had some issues, but getting rid of stats altogether was a really bad move.

Just imagine all the ways in which your stats and your perks could interact with one another
to further determine the growth of your character.

You could have two warriors of equal skill with a weapon still leave strength as a determining factor for greater damage, movement speed governed by the speed stat, regeneration rate of magicka determined by your wisdom, and using constitution for your resistances, while leaving the perks with their function in the game of unlocking special abilities for your character, which represent their increase in skill allowing them to do more unique things with their growing talent.

I would hope that the perks were made more unique though, because a lot of them did feel too generic in the vanilla game.

Take some ideas from SkyRe or other mods of its ilk. I don't agree with all of the perks, but its closer to what I would call meaningful perk options.

I'd prefer if they adopted the Fallout style where you have both systems in place, that should free up the perks from all just being this mechanic works 10% better now. Pretty much anything is better than what Oblivion had though, IMO.

Both. It allows greater customization of your character, which is one of the main points of a RPG.

Both for me as well.

The perks on their own had some pretty serious issues, but the lack of stats hurt even more. The two together and done and balanced well could be really effective.

However one stat I don't miss at all is athletics. It fucked with the leveling so terribly and I'm glad it's gone.

I think both work perfectly fine and, when in a game that offers both, I tend to go for a mixture as well.

Both would be good, Perks kinda make you feel stronger and tweak your character a bit but leveling up a base stat really made you feel stronger in oblivion to the point you could power through the game. Skyrim I'd get murdered the second an newer named enemy came around the first couple times.

The problem with the stat system was it was easy to be gimped in since building other skill lead to you missing out precious stat points which will cripple you in the long term.

I thought Morrowind was pretty much correct in the skills/stats regard while Skryim was less interesting, but I'm the kind of person who spends hours doing stat builds for a new character. So maybe we could have both; stats and skills, with perks for the skills.

Stat systems are great. But I always thought that the old elder scrolls stat system was absolutely horrible.

The new system I found worked much better, though having both would be a good option. Just don't go back to old horrible one.
