Only for old games that would require my buying a console, like the PS1 Final Fantasy games, or games that are too rare or old to get anywhere except eBay, like the Pokemon Trading Card Game game (plus, I owned that one but my brother lost it about ten years ago, so that's even more justified).

And any of you who pirate modern games should be ashamed of yourselves. If you do it because you can't afford to buy them, go work and get some money.

I'm fine with emulation; it's accessible and allows you to grab those bygone titles that only the greediest of eBay sellers have access to.
This. Seriously, I can't stand the white knights that sound like they want to spit on people for not paying for this stuff, when most people just don't have any way to access them with all that hard work going to waste, you might as well enjoy them. With new games readily off the shelf it's different of course, but you know...

I'm with the guy who makes "Extra Credits"; the only time it's really appropriate to pirate games is when A) They're not available in your country, and you have no way to get to them otherwise, and/or B) When the games are old enough that the developers/publishers aren't losing any money on them, and you can't find them anywhere else.

As for emulation, most games from Dreamcast on back ( because decent copies of DC games are not as easy to find as one would think >.< ) I have little problem with. And although I do understand the justification that "well, I don't want to pay 60 bucks for a game and not like it", I find people that pirate anything newer to be lazy bastards who could just as easily rent it from Netflix or Gamefly or any one of the other companies that offer such services first, and then cycle back through it. Or, you know, wait for the game to drop in price.

Then again, anyone pirating Modern Warfare 2 has my seal of approval; that game has been $60 since it came out a year and a half ago, and hasn't dropped since - it actually increased in price at one point. What the hell is up with that?!
( just kidding... I don't actually condone that kind of behavior >.> )

I would, but only for a particular few games.
For example, I REALLY want to emulate 'Phantom Crash' for the original xbox (which I own for the xbox, but the backwards compatability makes it impossible to play on 360!).
However I have no idea where to get the rom for it, so even if it is legal, I couldn't...

I emulate older games that are very difficult to find and I don't have the necessary equipment for. The oldest I emulate is Gameboy Advance.

The only reason I consider myself to be a PC gamer is because of my SNES and NES emulations.

And Diablo 2. >.>

I'll do it for games I can't find anywhere anymore, like the Gen 3 pokemon games. A friend of mine just blasted through Fire Red last week with only his Blastoise in 8 hours, from start to finish, with the help of the VisualBoyAdvance's fastforward feature.

I prefer not to only because I like playing them on the original system for that retro feel. I do emulate because lets face it 99% of arcade games and older games don't get tossed onto collections and whatever.

I had someone tell me I shouldn't be emulating a game in college, I just happen to have 5 copies of Sonic 3 on different mediums so I don't think sega would be too upset to find out. I think I have several dupes because of different collections over the years...

I've only played two emulated games - Perfect Dark (lent it out years ago and never got it back) and Shadowman (hard to find). I have since found a copy, so I may buy it.

I used Project 64. Pretty solid emulator.

N64 and SNES. Before I got Steam, those were the only games I COULD play other than the handheld games given to me as gifts. (Not that there was anything wrong with those. It's just that when people would say good things about old games, I really wanted to play them.)

I got a new computer and Steam though. I have been debating whether I should redownload the emulators and ancient games.

Old NES games and SNES games and Genesis sure. Which is funny, if you look at IGN's best Wii games, most of the top games with the best scores are just remakes of old games =P
