Man, shiz just got real.

It's like one of my absurd satire novel ideas, only instead of the undead there's an army of Australians killing internet trolls. Not with weapons, but with laws, and the trolls remain alive but have they truly lived?

Essentially, Encyclopedia Dramatica may become a thing of the past if the Aussie government prosecutes the founder for racial hatred.

I'm speechless. What do you think? ED = cultural institution of lulz, or ED = good riddance?

Hmmm... ED can be genuinely funny at times, though I've made a point to stay away from the 'offended' page. I guess Australia really wants the be the real-world end boss. I would like to proclaim that Australia is now Morodor and Atkinsin is Sauron! All in favor!?

NOOOOO, I love that book. It are the greatest.

Seriously though, some people just need to harden the fuck up. The Government is gonna take action against a guy who didn't write the article. If they want justice maybe they should try and find the person who did write it, though catching the author of the article is unlikely. It seems like a stunt to demonize the internet in the eyes of the uninformed public who make up the majority of voters.

Do you have a link to the article that they have a problem with?

It's called the offended page and you DO NOT want to go there. Ever. Seriously. DO NOT GO THERE!

I'm assuming this is the article they have a problem with. I love the little disclaimer like box under the drawing of the bloke on the phone.

ED gives legit reports that X or Y is an actual criminal or risk to society.

So this is like Japan ballsing up and suddenly thinking, "THESE YAKUZA ARE EVIL, DEATH TO THEM".

A blogger buddy of mine once did an anime blog post while living in Japan that essentially stated that Yakuza stereotypes of a code of honour don't exist and they're essentially just street thugs. I wouldn't mind if the yakuza died out, because apparently they cause more problems than their badass levels warrant.

But would I want to censor yakuza crime dramas? Heck no.

I just read that.

Yep, they totally had it coming.

Oh, and...

lolencyclopaediadramatica

If you're gonna write something like that to deliberately offend someone and then hide behind the "free speech" principle like the coward you are, you never deserved that right in the first place, IMO.

Whilst I'm hating the idea of the Internet being censored, the idea of ED going away makes me happy.

I thought they had a problem with the Aboriginal page. I have seen the offended page. The gore isn't that bad, I found the infections to be the worst.

What? Why? How is this cool, Australia? I'm not OK with this! I should have every right to do whatever the fuck I want on the internet. It's kinda the point.

Its easy to make jokes about tragedy and call it free speech until something horrible happens to you. When your mother dies let me know, because I've got some wicked jokes lined up.

As much as I love making tasteless jokes I would always be careful as to who I tell them around.

In the end, free speech is great, as long as you're not a dick about it.

EDIT: I do agree that when it comes to stuff like ED, it is a pretty big case of "Don't like it, don't read it". No one is forcing these people to read the articles. But when it comes to people (I'm looking at you Anon) spamming the tribute facebook group of dead little girl then it gets a bit much.

I sort think it's okay, but that's largely because I find ED about as amusing as getting an arrow through the neck and then discovering there's a gas bill tied to it.

this is absurd the poor Aussies are are getting hit with worse dictators than well i cant really think of who right now but you get the point

and it is crazy that because 20 people didn't like a website the Aussie government is going after the guy who owns it he probably didn't even write the article

the fact that it's ED is not the problem the problem is that it would not stop with ED all sorts of websites could be in danger and the fact that there are political websites on the black list is unconscionable

I don't mind the proposed banning too much. I agree (mostly) with it, actually. They have 'lol' pages at the death of Trinity Bates, the girl who was murdered in my town just a few weeks ago. Personally, I find that disgusting.

Besides, if that new 'censor the internet' bill passes, ED will be blocked anyway. Go figure.
