Oooh, the Escapist is previewing this "Bulletstorm." Lets see what its all about.

"Enter your birthday."

Uh, Jan. 1, 1927

Who actually goes through the trouble to put in the absolute correct date on these "age check" things? I find them aggravating, first because it requires 4 extra clicks to watch something you'd watch anyway, but its purely on the honor system. Second, systems like Steam and the Escapist already have birthdates on file that they could use.

The honor system. On the internet. I'm even allowed to look at pornography by clicking huge boob-shaped "YES" buttons.

So what is it? Random day, actual day, date of significance, easiest possible date to enter...

Poll? You typed that in just to get hits, didn't you?
Also, yes I find it annoying but they're kinda required to do it to cover against lawsuits.

Damn. The poll was lost in the ether. It took a LONG time for that captcha to register and for the page to load.

The options read:

"Your entered birthate is:"

-Your actual birthdate
-Random numbers
-Jan 1, 19xx
-A date of some significance to my emo soul
-BANANAS

Definitely easiest to enter. Spend the least amount of time possible at that screen. Just something they have to do to protect themselves, I guess, but I would think two buttons to select if you are over or under 18 would work as well. Either way the system is not keeping anyone out and the single click would be appreciated.

Edit: Poll answer: -Jan 1, 19xx

Well, I do enter my correct date since it's in January, so it require very few scrolls. But if they already have a date open (Jan., 01, enter year), then I just pick a year from the '80s.

I agree, it is entirely pointless. Its stupid as a security system because, face it, any kid that's old enough and has half a brain can get by it simply by choosing a year that makes him old enough. and it's an unnecessary annoyance for those that don't ACTUALLY NEED it, that is to say, Adults.

Hey bulletstorm is by People Can Fly. Didn't they make the epic Painkiller? Sweet. Bulletstorm looks like a cross between Borderlands and Unreal Tournament.

OT: Ya i happen to find the age thing a bit annoying, especially on steam. I want to look at a game in the store and it gives me the age check. Shouldn't Steam like remember the age in a players profile? I say run the age check on those without profiles or not logged in. And dont allow the players who's profiles say under 17 (Or whatever is the highest rated ESRB age for your country) to view the page. Then people like me (18 years old WOOOOT!) don't have to fucking suffer.

It's pointless, really. It doesn't prevent young people from watching the video. It just makes the viewer annoyed.

And I usually put 12th April 1980. Don't know why... 12th April is my birthday, but I don't know why I always choose that year.

I always put in my actual birthday. I'm legal to do everything but rent a car at this point, so I have no reason to lie. I saw something today that I'd never seen before; I was looking at the Dom Perignon website, and it wanted to make sure I was of legal drinking age. I went to the site to get an idea of just how expensive this champagne my roomate's parents were going to get for his 21st birthday was, thought "okay, they're asking my age, maybe I can get a price quote from the site. Why else would they make sure you were over the legal age for your country before letting you view the site?" As it turns out, the thing was nothing but an advertisement for the product, with little blurbs about the various vintages that could still be bought. Why on earth would they ask my age for that?
