So my girlfriend and I have started watching Full Metal Alchemist (1st series) from the 1st episode and on (currently on #6) cause she has never seen it but she saw the movie on HBO the other day, and today she asked me if alchemy worked today, what would be traded and that turned into a 2 hour conversation/debate/argument/make-up nookie, and it brings up this question/poll. What would be set back for Alchemy? (more options to come)

solar because we never "give" anything to the sun. It only gives us light, and heat.

If you actually watch the rest of the series, you'll see why that's a bad idea. Note the way Al is speaking in the past tense in every intro.

im asking the question not in the form of using alchemy to set the technology back but rather an inter-dimensional time shift. See the ending of Red Alert 2 to see what kind of shift im talking about.

No, no, I'm saying that, fundamentally, the Alchemy in Fullmetal Alchemist isn't a good thing, and therefore not a thing worth doing. Why that is has to do with the definition of Equivalent Exchange. It's subtly covered later in the series.
