Does anyone else find that EVE is a beautiful game but very impersonal and, well, lonely?

EDIT: I find all your comments very informative. I might even be tempted to buy the game and try again with the account I started. I will need more convincing though.

Thank you all and keep it coming! I'm learning about the game with every post!

The noob help chat channel was full of people. Sure the average distance between any two people is about 1000 km, but I never got the feeling that the game was empty.

If you get into a decent corp then it's not so lonely.
I suppose I got a good deal though.
All my corp members are really nice and chatty (when we're not busy) and I know a feel people from RL who play EVE.

Well, it doesn't have instances and raids in the way that generic MMOs do and so you're not forced to deal with other players, which makes it harder to make friends, which makes it harder to find a guild (or corp in this case)

Once you meet other players, get involved with corporations and start participating in the things they do, you'll see that space is not so lonely after all.

EVE is an excellent game that gives a rush no other MMO has given me since UO and to a lesser extent Shadowbane.
The rush of knowing that you're putting everything on the line every time you head off into the world.

When I played the demo, I found it to be pretty impersonal, and then there was that infamous difficulty curve...
But then I got into a mining corp, and my troubles were over. They were all chatty and awesome. Too bad I can't play my demo anymore, and don't have the money for the full version...

No, it just takes time.

I played EVE for over 3 years, and the people in my corp were the only reason I stuck with it for so long (and even occasionally consider going back to).

It's an incredibly social game, and if you don't play it that way, it gets old fast and can definitely feel "lonely".

I just grew bored of EVE, i mean ratting/missions/mining quickly turned into grind, and without it i couldn't finance ships for anything else :/
And frigat tackling wasn't that fun

I found it was very easy to see through the "OMG its space therefore it's totally original and awesome and I'll never stop playing it.

The only thing to do in that game was quest, kill pirates or mine rocks, all of which were very passive.

Doing this allowed you to get a bigger ship that quested, killed and mined faster. That was it.

So yes, very good idea, nice graphics and all, but... Boring in my opinion.

And I certainly wouldn't pay for it.

heh, the noob corp I was in was planning to take over 0.0 space, the logic being that, being an NPC corp, noone could declare war on us :D

Never really panned out though...

Really was a pretty grind-tastic game in many ways though, for all it's time-based skill learning :/
