Poll: F@&!%ing nature how does it work!?

A short while ago I was having a discussion with another gentleman about his faith in humanity and a few other things and after a while we started talking about the nature of well nature. The other gentleman's opinion was that nature works in checks and balances (that man had interrupted) and my opinion was that nature is about survival of the fittest and other stock phrases like that. So without further ado how (in your opinion) does nature work?

Now for a serious answer, though nature is far too complicated to boil it down two just a few short answers, I'd say that it's a little bit of A. and B. Though it could be argued that natural checks and balances are a part of survival of the fittest, or the reverse, survival of the fittest is part of natural checks and balances.
