Alright, this is my first post, so spare me as I get used to the forums.

I like polls, so I'll most likely have one on most of the threads I start. Deal with it you anti-poll people (you know who you are...)

The point of this thread is to address the overly high reviews that Fable 2 recieved, and I'm tired of people whining at why some reviewers gave Fable 2 an eight out of ten. Here are the problems I'm facing in Fable 2, and all you fanboys better listen to the facts. I love Fable 2 just as much as anyone, but you can't be THAT blind. Here goes: (and yes there are spoilers, so beware)

The original Fable was one of my favorite games, if not my #1 game, so I wanted Fable 2 to be just as awesome as the first (I wasen't let down by the original Fable's hype, because I haden't even heard of Fable until I bought it months after it's release). When I got Fable 2, it delivered. It was everything I had hoped for when I first started playing it. I bought the collector's edition (rip-off btw), the guide, and stayed up till midnight to buy the game and skipped school to play it all day (which I haven't done for any other game). So now that you know my history with Fable, here's my review:

Fable 2 is great and all with the improvements to battling, the scale of the game, and economy. But there were just too many problems in the game, which didn't happen in the original Fable, that threw me off.

Firstly the storyline was just god-awful for me. I expected to have another boss just as bad-ass as Jack of Blades or Maze and a story about what lengths I'd go to stop him, but what do I get? First I get to go around and help/rescue three characters by doing mundane tasks, and by the time the game ends, I don't care whether they live or die (except Reaver, at least he had a personality...). Which all that I can ignore as long as I get my final boss, but turns out that's the biggest let down of the game. The boss is just some weak old guy who's goes insane after his family dies. OH!! And final boss battle was fipping AMAZING!! It consisted of listening to some dialogue, then pressing the 'Y' button! Best boss battle ever!!!

Obviously that was sarcastic, but sadly it's true. It makes the final rewards feel meaningless and you get the sense of "That's it? I won the game? Now what? Guess I'll just keep doing what I was doing before I started the storyline, that was a waste of time..."

Putting the final boss aside, the rest of the 'bosses' in the game consist of mainly trolls, and trolls are just your standard boring 'hit the weak spots' kinda bosses. In Fable Jack of Blades, Twinblade, and Maze all had personalities, all were semi-difficult to defeat, and they all continued the plot and took some time and effort. I can't express how big of a let down this was for me. Fable 2's story was just too plain and generic in comparison to Fable.

Complaint #2: The glitches. I have never seen a game so buggy and poorly tested. When I first played the game, I noticed a few bugs here and there, nothing big. So being the big Fable fan that I am, I decide I'll actually go to their forums and post about the errors I found. Then I find out many other people were experiencing far worse problems such as corrupted save files, people dissapearing, and getting stuck to where they had to start over. And then after more playing myself, those things started happening to me. I can't think of one bug in Fable that I've experienced (at least nothing game-altering), so this was a big surprise to me, and not in a good way...

Gripe #3: The game quickly becomes boring. Once you've rented out enough houses, there's no need for any other source of income and you can buy most everything from shops early in the game. Now Fable also had this problem, though not as bad, but at least the storyline was good enough to make me want to play through the game again. I have no urge to play Fable 2 again, because I've done/own everything on just one character.

In conclusion, I still have my hopes that Lionhead will deliver me an expansion similar to The Lost Chapters, where they fix all the bugs and extend the meaningless storyline so I can finally kill off Theresa, who I swear is evil! (come on, she's controlling you by making you do all the hard work, and then once you kill Lucien, she takes control of the spire with a smirk. Now THAT would be a good storyline for the expansion pack, quite the twist)

My Review: 8/10. Solid game, lacking in story, and bugs interfere with experience.

Here's my ups and downs of Fable 2 to sum it all up, let me know what ya think.

The Good:
- World is more interactive and cities have an economy
- Lots more ways to customize your character (ex: purity/corruption)
- Online/Local cooperative play (though sketchy)
- Can be male or female, and the addition of condoms (I guess that's a good thing )
- More in-depth relationships and families (people are now unique and can change their names)
- No more mana bar (yay :)
- A lot more side quests
- Replacement of bows for guns
- Graphic style and overall theme is same as original (a good thing)
- Semi-fun and lucrative jobs (except woodcutting, boooring...)
- Battle improvements allow for many ways to fight your enemies
- The dog was actually a good idea
- No more mass buying/selling of items cheat
- Buying houses/shops is actually worth the time and gold (good and bad)
- Magic looks cooler
- Use of stars to represent quality of items
- You age with the quest, not over time
- Some great looking and interactive cutscenes
- "Bread Crumb" trail aids with quests (when it works properly )
- Pub games are semi-fun (except spinnerbox)
- The promise of more Fable games

The Bad:
- Text is small and cuts off at the top of screen for some TV's
- Menu forgets where the cursor was last and loads slowly
- No longer tells me if I bought an item already when buying from vendors
- minor graphical issues with scenery and dog
- Can't program items to the control pad anymore (drinking potions take forever)
- In local co-op, unable to use your own hero, only their stats (can anyone explain why they did this?)
- No more armor for me to collect and look awesome

The Ugly:
- Surprisingly short and unneventful main quest
- Collectors Edition was a rip off (I feel stupid)
- Glitches and Corrupt Save files abbound after extended play
- I don't earn my rent when not playing the game as I was promised (I'm I the only one experiencing this? Do you have to be online for this to work?)

(feel free to post any other good/bad/uglies you know of and I'll edit this post if it's true)

I give the GAME a 9/10; it's just plain fun for me. I love the world and the whole "real estate" game. Trolls feel meh to fight against and loading times are sorta harsh whenever I need to switch equipment or use potions and I don't like the expressions system or the glitches in the world.

I really hate how one of the more-engrossing games of '08 bugged up on me and I don't want to start a new file just yet(might wait a month or 2) as I feel I've done so much and I would really like my character to finish the story. It's not fair to him or to me.

To answer OP's quibble on the rent earning: You need the time to not stay at 12:00 am. The 360 must be plugged in and be on or be on stand-by. If you unplug it, the time stays at 12:00 am and since there's no way for the game to figure out the time via internet or being plugged in, time doesn't go on according to the 360 and you get no money.

i loved the game until half-way though my game GOT STUCK IN A FUCKING CUT SCENE SO ALL I CAN DO IS WALK AROUND VERY VERY SLOWLY, *deep breath* as the game thinks i am still in an interactive cut scene, so that pretty much ruined the game for me.

DAMN YOU PETER MOLYNEUX

You do have to be online for it to work with the rent offline. I think its to stop people cheating by changing the clocks. I agree its annoying.
I gave it 8/10 because I still really enjoyed it, and because I played through for most of the game as true nuetral come endgame I didn't have insane amounts of money and therefore still have lots of things left to do. I didn't really all the bossfights in fable one, but I agree the trolls were boring, and I straight up agree about theresa, I'm ready to gut her for taking my spire.

I really enjoyed it but after a weekend of pretty intensive play it just didn't have anything let to it. What was the point of tracking down the rest of the gargoyles, I could already kill everything easily.

Really needed some brutally hard, off the road type dungeons but they just don't seem to exist.

Really liked the actual set up with the choose you're own style thing.

Fable 2 was short and easy. Looks like Lionhead forgot their fans and catered more for the casual gamer. BTW is'nt your review a bit of spoiler, but then again everyone should have finished the game by now.
