You seen Facebook's "Top Stories" thing recently, right? Showing the most popular posts above all the others. It seems kinda like censorship to me. Now, instead of deleting post they'd prefer to remain unseen, such as post involving the new york protests (topics of which continue to be deleted), they just hide it behind the popular facebook drivel. Well played, Facebook, pretty sneaky of you...

I don't think facebooks being censored just that facebook think "Users don't want to know the latest news just what the most popular shite is from 3 days ago" Also isn't facebook protected by some free speech law?

I noticed that in the latest update...Every time I log on to Facebook I heave a sigh and click 'most recent' or whatever because I don't care about popular posts but the recent ones. No longer an option though so what can ya do...Other than switching to Google+ or giving up on social networking sites.

That just sounds like a standard "here is the most popular stuff right now" feature unless I am missing something.

Well, I don't really go to Facebook anymore (Google+ ftw), but I guess they changed up the design again?

Wow, that looks like complete arse. Seriously, that is some ugly design...
Seems less like censorship and more like the stench of bad decisions to me.

Everything Facebook does is just silly and pointless, but lets be honest. People aren't going to stop using it over anything.

And they've been deleting stuff about New Yorkers protesting? When did this happen?

I'm pretty sure Facebook is trying to encourage people to interact more with close friends and less with minor acquaintances, and they're going about doing it by using algorithms that decide for you how close your friends are. It's really annoying, especially since a big part of social networking is, you know, networking -- in the 80's, yuppie-related meaning of the word.

I think it was perfect when you had, you know, the choice between latest news and top stories. Where you just had to click either one at the top of the screen. Whichever one you wanted. Whenever. No downside. Complete control. *Cough*

On the news recently - yes, public news, the one that has such a reputation for misconstruing facts - reported that something like 80% of students said that they equated Facebook in importance to other essentials like food, water, shelter, etc.

Maybe Zuckerberg heard this and thought "I'm already rich, now I just wanna fuck with 'em".

Anyway, I think it would be great if Facebook's servers went down for about two weeks. That way people could actually go make real friends.

Which might be a bit hypocritical of me, because I'm posting on a forum, but I don't spend literally all of my free time on here and if it were to die off, so what? It's not like I couldn't find something else to do, like I did for the first eighteen years of my life, or like humanity has done for thousands of years.

Actually, Facebook is a part of normal socialization now. It's no different from e-mail or the telephone; people plan their real-world stuff online these days. In fact, Facebook basically is an e-mail client, just a highly advanced one that is useful for more trivial things, unlike actual e-mail, which isn't worth using unless you have something fairly substantial to communicate.

I don't do the social media thing, so I wouldn't really know. However, given what I've read about Mr. Zuckerburg it wouldn't surprise me to find they were trying to pull a fast one.

Maybe so, but declaring that it is a necessary part of life is sad. I know how handy Facebook is, and I even have a profile page which I visit more than once a day and use often. But I find people's absolute reliance on Facebook, or computers in general, baffling. If every single one of them were to go out for even a day, how would humanity cope?

Now I sound like a conspiracy theorist because such a thing isn't going to happen. Fuck, I need to go to bed.

EDIT: Also, "normal" socialization includes speaking, with your mouth, in person, to other people. Facebook is a very handy tool; nothing more, nothing less.
Like I said earlier, it's no different from the telephone or e-mail. It also doesn't replace face to face socialization; it just extends our social lives to the point that we're interacting with our friends even when everyone has gone home for the night. And yes, it is a necessity in this day and age, but less on the level of food, water, and shelter, and more on the level of phone, e-mail, and the postal service.

Huh.... they're deleting posts? Really?

That might explain why one of my posts disappeared yesterday from the news track. It's still in my profile, but there was no way to get it back in the news. It was a trivia thing about how the stoner kid from Super Troopers is married to the hot red head from Mad Men. Perhaps the drug references didn't sit well with them, even though it was only about a movie?

If it's the case, Facebook is starting to suck some serious dick.
