Well, the DLCs don't add to the gameplay, they add to the gameworld, so not installing them would make you miss out for no good reason.
Operation Anchorage gives you better equipment, and the simulation you run can be undertaken at any level, so I suggest at least doing that first.
You could install it now and just play the game without using it?
Of course, i would at least recommend doing operation anchorage first so you get the winterised T51 power armour that never degrades.

Some of the DLC, like Anchorage, actually fixes a few bugs with followers disappearing. I'd install them now.
