Simple, really. I enjoy open-world games like Fallout and Grand Theft Auto. It's great fun for me to get decide how to play through the game, whether guns ablaze or stealthily, with plenty in the way of exploration. So would I enjoy Far Cry 2? I've heard mostly good stuff about it, mostly regarding gameplay and the world. But I'm not familiar with the franchise.

What's your verdict on it?

Well I've played it, and from what I've seen...it's pretty damn good. Worth buying.

Tho there are some thing's that might annoy you, for e.g. the fact that every goddamn mission you get, you always gotta spend half the time driving across the map to get to it.

The graphics are good, and the gameplay is decent. So yeah if you're looking for a good shooter this is the game I would get.

I played it until my computer died and its ok but depending on how you play it the difficulty curve is weird and driving to the next objective while fighting off jeeps get annoying. those are less a problem with the game itself and more a problem with Sandbox gaming in general, so if you are into sandbox games and shooters check it out.

Having to check the map gets to be unbelievably annoying, but considering that I've spent more time on this game than anything this year, I think you will get value for money from it - just play it alongside something else.

If you play it on the toughest difficulty and just like the free roaming aspect, it's not worth the trouble. I did this and just got peeved with guards respawning at every road intersection and bridge so the game mechanic became Drive -> turret -> drive -> turret... etc.

Average, but I'd buy it just to be a stressreliever.

After causing forestfires and running over antelopes for half an hour, you'll forget that you even had a bad day.

It's definitly a good game, but most people aren't very happy with it because it isn't the same spectacularly awsome game that Farcry 1 was. I suggest that you get it, but you should try the origional farcry befor or after you do.

I constantly hear that it's so great, but I hated it. The only thing I liked about it was the healing. Basically, when you got shot, if you tried to heal up, you'd pull a bullet out with pliers, or possibly bandage yourself up, or even pat some fire off of your arm. That never got old, but the gameplay itself did.

Rent if anything
It's just average and has very litle depth to it, plus the story kills itself
I think they spent far more time on fire effects than the actual single player experience

Good enough to buy, but not OMGWTFBBQ if you ask me. The gunbattles can be truly excilerating but the missions are reaaaaaaaaally repetative. So I play it for half an hour every now and then, to get my fair share or big booms (the explosions are awesome really) and awesome gunbattles (playing on hardcore \o/ great fun really) for half an hour and then it's time for a game with a little more depth ;) By the way, they say that the AI is so awesome, but I really never noticed that. They just take cover and try to flank (sometimes...), and...that's it really. They also say that the weapons are shitty, that the whole game feels 'unlike any FPS before'. I find that a load of crap really, nothing really different about it.

Even though I liked FC2 a lot, you really have to rent it first. There are so many variables that may/may not make you like the game, it's better to be on the safe side by renting.

Edit: The open world doesn't do anything for the game. If you want this to be like GTA4 or Fallout, you're going to be disappointed. In FC2 everyone hates you. There are very few safe places in the world, and the world is just so big, and requires so much tedious driving, it's hard to appreciate the effort that went into making it.

It is fantastic. You will not be dissapointed. From the gameplay to the presentation, it's great. It fits all your reccomendation, from choosing stealth or big guns and it's a very good open world. Last words: You don't have to be familiar with the franchise, the only thing FC2 has in common with FC1 is the title. Literally. If you're dissapointed, then call me bob the idiot.
