Fast zombies are pretty new. Starting in 28 days later, these creatures were fast, terrifying and merciless. However, these zombies are often hated. I never got why these creatures were hated since I know only one guy who hates them and he isn't talking. Say why you hate them, and if you don't, then try not to start a flame war

No, I don't hate fast zombies. In video games, they offer a decent challenge. As for the movies, that just makes good theater.

i think it makes sense, if the rest of the body (except brain) works fine why should they be able to run.

strictly speaking 28 days later weren't normally zombies, they didn't die then rise they stayed living and arent really zombies

I wouldn't call the creatures in 28 days later "zombies," because they can be killed by being shot anywhere. Anyways, I wasn't thinking clearly and I voted "Yes" when I meant to vote "No."

funnily enough me and a freind had this discussion recently,

there are usually 2 types of zombies, there is the traditional slow moving zombie that can take lots of hits. there are also the zombies that are fast but take very few hits.

id recommend a fully/semi auto weapon when fighting this particular zombie as they are most likly in large groups, just spray the group before they can get to you. they are often too fast to melee

This is a leading question.

Do they make better film antagonists? Yes.
Would I like to see them feature in the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! CHRIST NO.

So what do I vote for?

Once starcraft2 comes out I am (much like many others, unfortunately) going to make a zombie survival map. One of the things I'm going to do is have a form of localized damage.

Initially most zombies run quite fast, however when they are shot at body parts can be blown off (so long as sc2 retains functionality of wc3's attachments, it's possible). A wounded zombie would move slower than a healthy one, but it doesn't die until you hit the head.
Got the basic idea working in wc3 at least.

Fast zombies are great because they're actually dangerous.

Traditional zombies on the other hand are so non-dangerous that they're virtually comical.

When watching traditional zombie films, I always used to think "well gee, anyone who can stay out in the open and keep up a slow jogging pace is pretty safe from a zombie attack". That all changed when I went with my then-partner to see the Dawn Of The Dead remake when it came out in the cinema, which had fast zombies chasing down cars, etc. My partner, who was more into horror films than me, was actually scared for the very first time after watching a zombie film. She didn't get a lot of sleep that night.

Fast zombies are more fun, in HL2 remember the slow headcrab zombies and the running ones? Which ones are more scary and fun to fight?

I don't hate them, but I do prefer the slow, shambling ones. They seem more fitting for the undead.

The speed of zombies in games is only detrimental when the developers get balancing wrong however when balanced right zombies fast or slow can create a good feeling of immersion.
Fast zombies panic the player and slow zombies create an atmosphere of impending doom so both types can be used to create atmosphere in a game.

The above said when the zombie apocalypse comes I'd rather have slower zombies, and the zombies to be really weak and friendly.

In a purely logical sense, fast zombies don't really make any sense. Considering that a zombie functions on pure instinct with some memory, running would really be too much of a struggle. Added in with the fact that it takes energy to move, and most of your energy while alive would have been used trying to fight the infection, not to mention the likely large blood loss, it's really not that possible to be able to run. Just imagine someone with Alzheimer's trying to run; they just wouldn't be able to manage it.

However, fast zombies are a lot more terrifying, so I don't think we'll see them out of modern films/games any time soon.

Honestly if any one actually took the time to think about zombies, they would know slow zombies wouldn't work.

If their the type that are reanimated dead and any dead can rise up, the government and local police have the place lock down faster then you can say screwed. Seriously what is their to stop you from hauling ass away from them? Nothing. Soldiers would just retreat not just stay their and wait for the zombies to get their happy slow asses over their. True many causality will be lost do to miss communication and femea inability to do any thing useful. The real world isn't populated by stereotypes you see in the movies. Most black people wont stand around saying the F word, most girls wont stand their and scream. Heck if the girl african the zombies better run. I wouldn't even want to see that fight.

the point is slow zombies have no chance. Now running zombies have a chance to close that attack window and get in range. Imagine having two chasing you fast and slow ... you be chase to the nearest safe house by the time the slow zombie has moved

If it by bite, hell maybe two - three people and epidemic is over over. 60% of all Americans have guns. The middle east is a war zone. Maybe britain?

I would say that fast zombies are better in videogames now because they do provide more of a challenge however I would rather take on slow moving zombies anyday if it meant that they were designed to be and act like zombies. I mean as much as I do like the Resident Evil series, the zombies from Resident Evil 5 didn't seem like actual flesh falling of zombies that we know of and I would say that Dead Rising did a better job by having slow moving zombies with hordes of them in a shopping mall, which is one of the coolest place to kill zombies.

The whole idea is that the THINKING part of the brain (the two cerebral hemispheres) have degerated because of a virus or what have you.

What remains is the reflex and instinct parts of the brain (pons and medulla). These are the parts responsible for reflexes and more importantly, FIGHT OR FLIGHT response. So yeah, running shouldn't be an issue with these principles in mind.
