Now are you talking if EVERY zombie is fast, or just something that adds a little variety to the hordes usual, limping, easy to kill, BILLIONS OF THEM standard zombie?

Well sense zombies live off primal-ish instincts so they could be able to run... they'd just run into a lot of walls!

For movies, I've always been a fan of the slow zombie shuffle. It had occurred to me at one point that reanimated corpses would most likely fall apart at high speed. For games, however, I find the fast movers harder to track and kill, and therefore more fun.

We don't like them because its a fad, they start going fast because they saw their favourite Zombiebrity doing it and they wanted in on the exposure, its just a way to look more attractive to the Zombie opposite sex.

Its just Zombie fashion, too mainstream to be cool, it'll die out pretty soon and another fad for zombies will take its place.

I hate fast zombies, but in a good way. I never really considered slow zombies all that threatening unless you back yourself into a corner like an idiot and there's a bajillion of them crowding around you. I hate fast zombies in that they are more terrorifying, which is why the developers designed the zombies like this in the first place. It's a good way to make players panic and such.

However, I can foresee growing weary of them if everyone and their mom starts making games with quick-moving zombies. It seems like if one person makes something inspired by a multitude of sources in other media and it turns out great, everyone blindly rips off that thing without actually seeing its sources. Star Wars is a good example, where they were inspired by westerns, adventure movies, and other sources, and then studios started ripping off Star Wars.

So, I can picture everyone getting tired of fast zombies when other studios start riding off of the successes of Left 4 Dead and Killing Floor and making zombie games with fast zombies.

A real zombie can't run. Rotting flesh doesn't move that fast!
Well, the fast zombies in games and movies are nearly ALWAYS not actual zombies. The zombies in 28 Days Later, I Am Legend, and Left 4 Dead are all living organisms that were mutated by a virus, not reanimated dead corpses.

Fast zombies are great because they're actually dangerous.

Traditional zombies on the other hand are so non-dangerous that they're virtually comical.

When watching traditional zombie films, I always used to think "well gee, anyone who can stay out in the open and keep up a slow jogging pace is pretty safe from a zombie attack". That all changed when I went with my then-partner to see the Dawn Of The Dead remake when it came out in the cinema, which had fast zombies chasing down cars, etc. My partner, who was more into horror films than me, was actually scared for the very first time after watching a zombie film. She didn't get a lot of sleep that night.
As true as that may be, let us not forget that zombies aren't terrifying alone, but the reason they are dangerous is because they come in huge numbers. In 28 days later, we learned that it IS possible for the Infected to become tired (They stop chasing down a car at some point). Whereas the Undead never grow tired. No matter where you run there are always more around, and no matter what you do, you will always tire out, whereas they will always persist.

I find in this way, the slow zombies are scarier simply because your demise seems inevitable, whereas fast zombies get you and be done with you in a matter of seconds. Both types are scary and dangerous, but in their own ways.

The whole point of zombies is that they are a monster who is eternally hunting us down. The fear is when we are trapped in a corner or base with them surrounding us. It doesn't matter how far we run, they will always smell us and follow us until they are destroyed. The seriously large numbers of them also add to their presence.

Making them run doesn't feel natural.

I hate slow zombies more, because I find it hard to believe how the generic zombie movie girl manages to run to a LOCKED DOOR IN HER OWN FUCKING HOUSE!!! Therefore getting cornered by the shumbling masses.

I wouldn't call the creatures in 28 days later "zombies," because they can be killed by being shot anywhere. Anyways, I wasn't thinking clearly and I voted "Yes" when I meant to vote "No."

If they'd attack me, I'd hate them, but they make films and games more dramatic, fun and interesting.

I prefer the old, shambley, stumbley zombies...Yeah the runners usually get more jumps out of an audience but the old (read proper) zombies it's their sheer numbers that are the scary part.

This is a leading question.

Do they make better film antagonists? Yes.
Would I like to see them feature in the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! CHRIST NO.

So what do I vote for?
I'm really hoping for the zombie apocalypse not to come. In games, fast zombies are fine. In real life, we're screwed.

I hate all zombies and anybody who says otherwise is a zombie sympathizer. Go on, give your zombie friend a big hug, just don't come complaining to me when your skin starts falling off and you develop an irresistible desire for brains.

I like slow zombies because they created much better pacing and atmosphere, fast zombies could be any other creature, they provide afew jumps, but a pigeon flying head first into my window creates the same effect.

I prefer slow zombies. Fast zombies make you run, and you might just get caught, or you might end up holing yourself up somewhere and then trying to run only to get caught again.

The slow zombies give a sense of complacency. You will hold up in a building with supplies waiting for the fuss to die down. But they keep on coming. You realise you cannot get past the horde, run out of supplies and then turn your gun on yourself through the sheer terror and existential angst generated by the situation.

Or, to put it another way:
Fast Zombies - Adrenaline junky fear
Slow zombies - Psychological Cthulhu-esque fear.
