Out of all of them, I'd have to say Resident Evil. Merely because it had both scares and laughs.

And zombies. They're always fun.

Super Mario World.
I spent so much time on that game.
I found every secret LV.
It was a lot of fun and has a lot of memories with it.

My favourites are Moonstone: A Hard Days Knight [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos:_The_Battle_of_Wizards].

I spent countess hours playing those games when I was a kid, and like a lot of the games I had on my Spectrum and Amiga, allowed me to not even notice that I didn't own a games console like most of the kids at school.

EDIT: Another favourite of mine was Barbarian [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbarian_%28Palace_Software%29], which I had on both my Spectrum and Amiga.

The Amiga version was particularly good because it had digitised sound effects from Red Sonja, including a few grunts and phrases from Arnie.

This is not the kind of topic that lends itself well to a limited-choices poll, so adding one because you felt you had to or something? Bad form, 101. Bad form indeed.

On-topic, how far back is "classic"? Is Final Fantasy VI old enough? It came out before many Escapists were born. How about Railroad Tycoon 2 or the original Fallout? They are clearly from another era in PC gaming.

If you're stipulating "childhood", I'll go with Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. I became the second kid in my neighborhood to beat Tyson (my brother did it first. Yes, we were awesome.)

None of the above. I love old rogue-like RPGs. Angband, Larn, Rogue, Hack, and even variants on variants like Troubles of Middle Earth variant of Angband.

Warlords! Man, that game ruled. It's kinda hard to describe, but I guess it was sort of like a 4-player version of Reverse Breakout.
You're supposed to protect your own bricks by bouncing the ball off your shield - that little U shaped blob. The mechanics are similar to Pong and Breakout, but the big difference is that in addition to letting the ball bounce off your shield, you can hold down the fire button to "catch" the ball and release the button to "throw" it in any direction. If the ball manages to get through your bricks and hit your "knight" (that little weird shaped block thing), you're out. Last man standing wins the point.

This game is amazing with 4-players. I didn't get to play it much, 'cause I didn't own an Atari myself... But every now and then, me, two friends, and this spoiled rotten asshole rich kid that no one really hung out with except to play his games (he had, like, every console ever) would gather around a big screen TV and get into some downright intense battles.
