Technically, it's part of his body, but an armadillo's armour is part of it's body, so it still counts.

exactly the problem with the nano-suit is it is flexible, an it will bend if it falls or gets knocked around by explosions or large pieces of shrapnel your bones will not,
So are your internal organs. If the kinetic energy isn't dissipated slowly then it's converted to rotational forces and that creates immense blood pressures that rupture blood vessels and organs.

Think of it this way: your skull provides ample protection from a boxing glove. The bone doesn't get pierced or cracked - apart from a broken nose or cut skin. Despite that people get knocked out. Same goes for car accidents. Your skin may not be pierced at all but the sudden deceleration may and often does result in internal hemorrhaging.

I suggest you go ahead and experiment with this idea a bit. Get yourself a suit of medieval armor and go bungie-jumping on a static rope.

unfortunately i don't argue with it having the better mobility and choice of tactical role, in fact i believe i already stated as much the problem is whilst is is vastly superior to, it does not make you immune to infantry and that is kind-of the point of a super-suit in my opinion, why let your prey have any reasonable chance of hurting you?
No, it makes you immune to small arms. If you can guarantee that in the whole theater there won't be a single man-operated piece of anti-vehicle weaponry then sure, it's a great choice. However that's never the case in today's world.

The Lugz said:
as to anti tank mines or ultra heavy weapons, well that is the answer to any platform isn't it, you can never truly be invincible but you can armour yourself against the biggest gun someone can plausibly carry, and i suppose that would be a rocket launcher, so you want military grade cattle-grids over your exoskeleton to pre-detoate them the same way modern army vehicles do
at the end of the day you can just build a bigger gun it's impossible to win that argument really as it will just devolve into
'meh, i just fire the chaos weapon at your planet, it's powered by a belt of suns constrained by black holes' 'shrug'
True and that pretty much reflects the state of affairs today. Ever noticed how in general the sizes of ships have been decreasing since WW1? How impractical the Yamato really was?

While nobody's using belts of black holes you pretty much got the core idea. Instead of adding more armor it's much more practical to do anything to prevent getting hit in the first place. Smaller, more agile vessels, multi-frequency jammers, softkill and hardkill measures of all kinds. You get the idea.

The Desert Ranger Combat armor(from the Honest Hearts DLC) gives you all the benefits of the NCR Ranger armor but none of the pain in the ass faction loyalty malarkey, the only downside to it is not being black like the NCR Ranger outfit, although the scratched in tally marks and other things make the Desert Ranger Armor more badass overall

HEV suit but with the helmet. Gordon is special because his head is already as resilient as the suit(in theory).
<spoiler=HEV Suit + Helmet as seen in Half-life: Deathmatch Classic>http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090203091446/half-life/en/images/2/20/DMC_logo.jpg

You may say that, but consider this; the MJOLNIR armour from the Halo series can survive a fall from orbit, completely protecting its occupant from both the atmospheric friction of re-entry, and the, well, terminal velocity collision with the ground. The suit's energy field (powered by a built in fusion reactor) prevents the occupant from being cooked alive by the heat, and the hydrostatic gel sandwiched between the inner and outer layers of the suit dampens the shock of impact by varying its density, eventually becoming completely solid and 'locking up' the suit to prevent the occupant from breaking any limbs upon impact. This significantly reduces the amount of force the user is exposed to upon impact.
The reentry is just a matter of good insulation. We're not there yet, obviously, but there already are materials like aerogel that provide the level of insulation required.

The problem is hitting the ground. Sudden deceleration causes extreme blood pressures, compression/twisting of organs and all other sort of nasty stuff. Short of making the deceleration last longer there's nothing that can be really done.

Learning to fall properly is a basic parkour move and it's all about extending the time of the deceleration. Protection from falling in any suit of armor whatsoever would be purely about augmenting the wearer's muscles - the human muscles have just so much power and can't perform this properly when falling too fast.

http://www.wikihow.com/Land-a-Jump-in-Parkour

That's why it's important for a suit to not only have strong artificial muscles but also be light - the heavier the suit the stronger the artificial muscles have to be. Interestingly adding more artificial muscles/power sources/ect will make the suit relatively weaker to it's mass.

Crytek debated all of this when developing Crysis 2. They did a remarkable amount of engineering for a fictional video game armor - the result is that it all makes sense and doesn't break any laws of physics. It's perfectly plausible - on the science fiction scale of hardness it's the one suit that's closest to actual science. I appreciate that as well as all the thought that went into it.

The best armor ever.

And if you don't know what this is, you've missed out.
Omg, I remember that game.

OT: I think I like the Halo Spartan armor the best. Maybe it's because it has shields and I can customize my armor in Reach.

My personal favorite is the beta suit from Time Shift, it is wired directly into your spinal cord, lets you manipulate and travel through time, and has a specially designed AI called SSAM that helps with time travel (avoiding paradoxes mainly) providing tactical advice and stimulates your brain to keep you alive. (he is basically Cortana without a personality or avatar.)

(If you count Cortana as part of the Halo armor then that's my favorite, but as she really travels from device to device, I don't count her as a suit feature where as SSAM is hardwired into the suit, as you can probably tell I prefer function over form)

Well, since we are saying that it is Armor, and the other option is Power Armor

I present to you my favorite "power armor"

Thats good old American "Power" Armor.

But the armor gave them powers. . .

The power armor, First off, Im not a fan of the western idea of how a suit should look, I cant.

its always these slabs of metal contorting around a human being, it looks like crap. I hate the wear and tear stuff too. I know armor is ment for combat, but the best suits are always the ones that look like they can do any job. Take the tron suits, you can apply that to anything, hand to hand combat, engineer, etc etc. and it still looks cool.

The varia suit looks sleek and alien, it has color! but it looks and is adaptable, it can take on things to aid its potential. the arm cannon has other uses besides PEW PEW PEW.

I actually like the Power suit over the other suits she gets, its simple and clean, its light, it doesnt have those crazy shoulders going on, and its not the other ones where they look boring and broken down.

Armor designs usually make me lean towards eastern styles, its just more my thing.

Samus' Power armor or Boba Fett's Mandalorian armor...

Unfortunately Boba's armor is just durasteel, I'd rather have Vau's or Skirata's beskar'gam.

Or the Republic Commando's Katarn Mark III armor.

Hmm. I'm going to go with something rather unorthodox that won't make sense to any non-fans:

- To be quite literal, the ship is karan's armor, is linked into her nervous system, and is essentially responding to her commands. And frankly, just the mothership's personal defense systems would render everything else in this thread completely useless - without getting into the built-in ship foundries.

I love the unique color scheme for the H.E.V suit, but the T51-B is like wearing a goddamned tank on your body!

The OP picked a bunch of armours from sci fi games that all looked much the same. If this was a poll, I'd like to see some fantasy knight armour in there as well at least.

Here are some of my favourites.

For non-powered armor, the NRC Ranger combat armor from Fallout: New Vegas. It's hard to adequately describe the pleasant sensations that I become filled with by just looking at this armor, so I'll just say that this armor is fucking awesome and leave it at that.

agreed, that fucking armor is fucking amazing..

i just recently found it in a new playthrough of NV in an old NCR bunker that had been taken over by radscorp's, when i found it i squealed in joy

OT: for overall coolness, the nanosuit is legit as fuck, but for the love of the suit(s), i've always fancied myself some mjolnir, especially the customized ones..they are fucking sick and i love every detail of them, especially the ones mentioned in the books.

although realistically, the n7 is fucking awesome, if i was in space i'd def. want that damn suit

Nano suit. I'm all for practical and the Nano suit is nothing if not practical. Why is the HEV suit orange? isn't that like painting a giant bullseye on your back? Same is true for Samus, the other ones are too big and bulky, the only one which also makes sense is the Halo-suit, but that doesn't turn invisible.
It can turn invisible, if you have the right armour ability equipped, and the strength and armour stuff come built-in. And though this isn't really demonstrated in the games, it can certainly manage speed as well; the Chief's highest known speed is 50MPH, though he did strain a few muscles getting there.

And the HEV suit's orange because, for a suit intended to be used by research teams working with dangerous compounds or in hazardous environments (hence Hazardous Environment suit), being extremely visible is an advantage, rather than a disadvantage; you want your fellow researchers to be able to spot you easily, so they can render assistance should you encounter trouble.
correct me if i'm wrong..but i swore i remember reading that kelly, the fastest spartan, got roughly up to 60~64 mph?

i can't remember exactly, haven't read in a while, but i swore she booked it to that pace at least once in the book(s).
