Big Boss.
He is so cool, and MGS3 is the only game I've actually beaten in the series.
MGS2 I got from a friend, but it's really hard, so I've barely gotten into it.

I'm going to have to say Solid solely for the fact that MGS4 showed a whole new side of him. A close second is Big Boss simply for the originality of the character, and the idea of clones keep him high in my mind. Even still, seeing Solid Snake go from a nomadic cynical asshole into a warmhearted friend really made me hold him in much higher regards than his father once the series was over.
They don't call the him Big Boss for nothing, the original and best Snake. Hell in mgs3 he practically got every bone in his body broken and lost an eye, but still finishes his mission.
I think Metal Gear Solid is a pretty cool guy, eh kills Liquid (twice) and doesn't afraid of anything. Really though, Solid Snake for me is just the most fleshed out and sympathetic character, there are moments towards the end of MGS4 that are really moving, given all he's been through up until that point. Also, he is basically sex on legs. Just...throwing that out there.

I've never met a more human character than John/Naked Snake/Big Boss. Despite him being a badass at everything he does, he's got flaws in all the right places to make him my favourite.
Also the badassery of him pwning an equally aged Solid Snake in MGS4 was awesome. Even if it was only for a CQC (Close Quarters Cuddle).

Probably Solid if only because he was the first one I knew and loved the most all around... though you gotta give it up to Naked Snake.

The best snake is big boss, he is the original and the original is always best. Plus his relationship with boss in MGS3 is perfect.
