With online Multiplayer comes various variations of man versus man. What Exactly is your favorite game mode when playing online? Also do you prefer certain game modes for certain games? In case You don't understand the poll I'll put some definitions and even my personal preferences.

Free-For-All Deathmatch: Ah yes, the classics never go out of style. This is probably the most bare bones game type, a group of people enter, one person stands as the victor. Though seen less and less nowadays, there is still a primal joy in the simple chaos of this game mode. Some see it as pretty balanced since everyone needs to watch out for everyone else. Let's face it, sometimes we don't always like having to rely on other people or we don't like having people relying on us. Plus this has the greatest potential for trash talk and you're lying to yourself if you say you don't occasionally enjoy that. I personally prefer the FFA of Modern Warfare 2 and Rainbow Six Vegas.

Team Deathmatch: As Standard as standard comes, you'll be hard pressed to find a game without this mode somewhere. It takes the standard deathmatch and adds the benefit of working with your fellow man to kill other fellow men. Who said video games don't encourage gamers to co-operate? I really like the Squad Deathmatch mode In Bad Company 2 and the Team Deathmatch in Killzone 2.

Solo Objective: Taking the standard objective game and adding some anarchy to the equation, games like solo headhunter from the Halo Reach Beta or a free for all King of the Hill. I rarely see these nowadays but I enjoy them none the less, I have fond memories of playing Golden Eye with my brothers and spending hours with capture the flag.

Team Based Objective: Second to probably Team Deathmatch in Popularity, Team objective games have probably the most variations. From Team Fortress 2 to COD's Search and Destroy to Conquest Mode in the Battlefield Series, there's probably something here for every one. Some games, like Battlefield 1943 ONLY have Team Objective gameplay. Its easy to see why since they include roles for everyone. This is due to the fact that winning more often depends on tactics and coordination rather than racking up a higher kill count, allowing some teams to win with some team members never firing a single shot. I'd list some of my favorites but this is getting long already.

Co-Operative campaign: Growing more popular by the minute, many games feature this as their strongest asset, such as Left 4 Dead or Gears of War. In this mode you and your buddy(s) blaze through the solo game or a specially made campaign (such as in Spinter Cell Conviction) created solely for co-op. Even games sold mainly for the single player like Fable 2 or Saints Row 2 are including co-op. My favorite game for co-op would probably be that of Borderlands.

Co-operative Offshoots: These are special game modes where you and your friends perform missions unrelated to the single player experience. The variant most popular at this time seems to be the "Final Stand" Scenario such as the Horde mode for Gears of War or Nazi Zombies for Call of Duty World At War, where our heroes try to hold out against ever increasingly difficult waves of enemies until everyone dies. Other examples would include Spec-Ops from Modern Warfare 2 but my favorite would be Terrorist Hunt mode from the Rainbow Six series with a special mention of Counter-Operative from Perfect Dark which showed plenty of potential.

Community made games: Usually someone gets bored and creates a game mode for them and their buddies. From things as simple as having everyone use pistols one match to the ever popular (if annoying) game of Michael Myers, these help break up the monotony and can become genuinely fun and offer plenty of experimentation. I remember Golden Eye inspiring plenty of games my brothers and I played.

Other: Anything I forgot.

And so there you have it. Sorry about my long winded nature, but hopefully these definitions helped. I'd like to know y'alls favorite modes and even if you prefer playing some on certain games than others. I don't really mean specifically fps' when making this list, those are just the ones I play more often.

When I feel all elitist and strategic I go for something team objective based. E.g Capture the flag, territories, attack and defend etc etc...

When I want fun I go for the playlist that allows the biggest amount of people in one game. For a perfect example. Big Team Slayer from Halo 3. In a good game the atmosphere is so hectic and it feels as if you're part of an army invading forward.

Also I like community games when played with friends.

Love objective games on games like Bad Company 2 but on games like MW2 or Transformers: WFC Team deathmatch is fun

Whatever the term is to define Monster Hunter's online. That's my favorite.
I think that would more or less qualify as Co-operative campaign unless you're playing in PVP (if the Monster Hunter series has that) along with most MMORPGs, though again MH is kind of hard to define as its not quite a full on MMO.

I've always enjoyed attacker/defender objective based sorta games, like One Flag CTF in Halo, or Rush in BC2.

Objectives always tend to get me more immersed than just "There's an enemy, shoot him!".

Well I also play the Monster Hunter MMO which is really just MH with a lot more grinding, which I don't mind :p

A few titles have PVP ish things, but it's not the main focus.

I was going to choose co operative campaign but it's not really a campaign especially when you get all the missions done. I guess co operative missions or something...

Team Deathmatch, if the people playing it actually work as a team. Otherwise, Co-op is my favorite. Campaign or one-offs, it doesn't really matter, it's all fun.

Big team Capture the Flag games in Halo 3 are some of the best multiplayer matches I have ever played.

Death match in Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

I have never had so much fun with an online mode before or since. Excellent community, tons of tweaking options, suspense, challenge, freakin' awesome matches, and maps that made you think.

And then Ubisoft took it out of the goddamn game.

What the hell.

I really enjoy MMORPGS and co-op campaigns, I don't know there's something i enjoy about working with people instead of constantly blasting their faces off.

Although I do play 2v2 PvP which involves face-blasting a-la partner.

In unreal tournament, which is my primary mp game, it's all about the ffa deathmatch or duel for me. But, one of my favorite mp experiences was with 1-flag or assault on asymmetrical maps in Halo2 like Headlong and Zanzibar. 1 flag in headlong with like 5v5 was fucking fun.

Free for All is what I mostly play. I can never trust them idiotic team-mates to watch my back.

However I don't mind playing team based modes with friends. That's when TF2 goes from great to awersome.

Free-For-All. No moron teammates weighing you down, no enemy teams holed up in a building like dicks, just you and your gun versus the world.

I mainly play FFA because it's the only gametype in CoD games that's remotely tolerable. It's a lot more about personal skill and a lot less about camping for kill streaks or whoring overpowered stuff (although things that are overpowered in team games are still overpowered in FFA).
