Pretty simple question. What ship do you pilot across the universe on your noble mission? I have achieved my best results with the trusty old bucket of bolts, the Kestrel, but I have a soft spot for the mighty Federation Cruiser. In the early sectors you can slice and dice with the built-in Artillery Beam.
If you use the Crystal Cruiser then there is no poll option for you.
I'm not terribly good at the game, but I can still enjoy the hell out of it.

Zoltan all the way. Federation ship packs some seriously sexy firepower with that cannon, but having a crew of zoltan plus those awesome shields right from the start? Hell yeah!

Well i've never finished the game sooooooooo. Mark I Kestral 4Lyfe

Double Burst Lasers and the Artemis means you get 6 shots with the lasers, instantly downing the strongest shields and you can always just Artemis though it if you're feeling mean >:)

Victory through superior pewpewpew's. Fire two 3 shot burst guns at a low shield ship. It's AWESOME! The havoc it causes within a second is immense

just about this, getting to the end and having full shields on top of the zoltan shield?

BRING IT ON SWARM ATTACK, YOU DON'T HAVE SHIT ON ME.

(this is the only way i've beaten the game, so therefore i pledge my allegiance to the zoltan)

Kestrel Type B.
It comes with 4 basic lasers, meaning that an opening barrage can cripple most ships early on, and whose layout is designed in such a was as to render boarders ineffective, provided advanced blast doors are installed.

For a second, imagine that the drone and cloaking rooms were empty.
If an enemy shows up anywhere near the sensors, you can easily drain the room of all oxygen, but you can also drain the room they're trying to get into so if they do succeed they won't get far before suffocating.
