I haven't even seen Shrek 4.

Shrek 2 however was amazing. The scene where Fairy Godmother is singing I Need A Hero and they were racing to get there on time was AWESOME. Actually used to replay that scene on my DVD over and over.

Yeah, I think the second film was the pinnacle of the series. When the first one came out, nearly everybody in the cinema stood up and applauded. We didn't think the second one could be any funnier. We were fools. Wrong, silly fools.

I loved the second one but the first one blew me away when I was a kid.

I remember getting it on VHS and watching it only to immediately rewind the tape and watch it again.

I used to replay the scene with Robin Hood over and over or the 'Welcome to Dulok' song, I still know all of the words.

The second film is probably better but I have a certain level of nostalgia attached to the first.

The first one will always be my favorite, though I freely admit that the "I Need A Hero" scene kicked all kinds of keester.

"Duloc is, Duloc is, Duloc is a perfect plaaaace!"

OT: I actually watched the first two again just the other day. Should probably rewatch the third as well since I don't remember much of it, but I found that the second one has aged a bit more gracefully, if just for pacing reasons.

The whole third act of Shrek feels a bit rushed, in retrospect.

Definitely the first one when it feel fresh. Granted I did liked the second one but then it went stale with the third (I haven't seen the fourth film).

I've only seen the first 2 movies. The second one felt more polished but the first one had the benefit of fresh ideas.

I liked the first one when I saw it as a kid, but the second one was even better. I remember seeing parts of the third one, and it didn't really interest me.

In all honesty, I simply didn't like the first Shrek. I just didn't find it very funny, and instead was mostly bored throughout the whole thing. It's been a while since I last saw it, so perhaps it's different than I remember, but it just wasn't for me.

Now, Shrek 2 on the other hand, was excellent. Very funny, very well-written, great acting. I think I like the second one more just because there's so much more going on throughout the film, especially the comedy stuff. None of the other Shrek sequels caught my attention the same way (Three was very average and I didn't bother to see any others after that), but Shrek 2 will always have a place in my heart.

Shrek 1 knew what it was and was great...
Shrek 2 knew what it was and improved on that fact...
Shrek 3 had the "right idea", but could not top 2...
Shrek 4 reminded us why we liked the first two more than the third one...

Overall, I would say that 2 is better than 4, which is better that 1, which they are all better than 3 in their own way...

The first movie was entertaining in its own right. I found the premise of a story revolving around the ogre rather than the knight to be pretty interesting, so when the second one came around I was pretty excited to watch it (and also unsure if the premise would have become stale by now), and I definitely got the sense it was more polished: animation had improved, the movie was more willing to go nuts with the scenes, characters were dynamic, and the villain was more out of a fairy tale than the last one, not to mention that finale! All around, the second one had more points in just about every category than its predecessor.

Shrek 1 for me. Although Shrek 2 was also great. Didn't really care for 3 or 4.

I like 2 the most. 1 had the best idea but just good in execution, 2 was the most fun to watch, 3 felt like they should've stopped, and 4 was just "why".

Im going to have to go for number 1, alone for that one 'interrogation' scene of the gingerbread man...even to this day I break out in tears laughing when he goes 'THE MUFFIN MAN!!!' haha. Plus I probably watched it half a million times or so...I think Ill go rewatch it this evening, thank you for reminding me of a great film.

The first one was fun, it was a pleasant surprise and even as a kid I knew it was doing something to help stand out from most animated films of the time.

But yeah, the second one blew me away. I STILL enjoy the second one.

The third one was awful, and the fourth one was that level of just okay. It had a few good laughs, but it doesn't come anywhere close to 1 or 2.

THERE ARE ONLY TWO SHREK MOVIES AND THAT IS HOW IT SHALL ALWAYS BE.

I loved the first one and all, but I'd have to hand it to the second one.

I still remember cracking up over the arrival scene where they step out of the coach.

The first one was a classic, but I prefer the second one for simply being funnier. And yes, the "I Need a Hero" scene rules.
