Huh. Your avatar sure looks... familiar. Not cool, man, not cool. I feel like someone just stole my internet face. EDIT: Greatly appreciated. *sticks face back on*. Coincidences, huh? Weird, man.

OT: Cryomancy. I love me some freezing. If a guy is running towards or away from you you? Freeze him. He ain't running anymore. Way I see it, if he moves slower, and attacks slower, it gives you more of a chance to lay into him.

Brain powers. Why waste energy on fire when I can severe an artery in your brain by snapping my fingers? Stop your heart? Read your mind? You can argue that pyromancy is cooler, but you'll look a lot less cool when you spasm ing on the floor.

No straight up energy magic and when I mean energy, I mean arcane?

I guess I go with nercomancy, toying with death is a joy!

Could even find some money and dress up as probably the baddest Cryomancer of all time too.

You mean as the most powerful necromancer in the entire world[footnote]of Azeroth[/footnote]?

May I ask what this is from? it looks quite good!
That would be Roy Mustang from Full Metal Alchemist.

My memory is failing me as to which series it is, but I want to say Brotherhood.

Well a part of my wants to say Necromancy but whenever I play D&D I always ALWAYS learn fireball and always fill my entire level slot full of them.

Why not a spell to open a door? Fireball! Why not a spell to manipulate someone? Fireball! Why not a spell that doesn't kill all your allies? ... Fireball and necromancy types later!

Not to be a contrary Connie, but I'd have to go with Blood Magic. I mean, I would love to have any of the listed ones, but if I had the choice, I'd have to go with good ol' ritual sacrifices and blood bending.

Sorry, gotta say Necromancer.

Because, why why WHY would I move a muscle when I can have my all powerful demi-god Lich kings who serve under my foot more obediently then any guard dog will, pulverize you in under a second?

Why would I do any chores when I have zombies walking back and forth, doing everything for me? Sure, the upkeep is quite high because brains are really quite expensive, but come on, its a zombie.

Under any other circumstances, I'd say the magic/technique of Shaping from Geneforge. Such a brilliant series, honestly.

Pyromancer, baby! Woot!

I dunno why, but fire is a fun magic ability to have.

It kills all the things and you get to watch them dance while they are on fire too!

Free entertainment! :D

From the title, I thought this was more about magic physics.
I really liked the Sympathy from the Kingkiller Chronicles, because it's unique and has very defined rules to use and exploit. It's more like a new branch of science, and every application of it makes sense.
It's not like in HP, where magic is just plot device and laser guns.

On topic, I guess you could define i as mind magic though, very loosely.

Disappointed there isn't chocolate magic here, seriously. It's pretty sweet if you've ever gotten to use it.

Illusions... It's the magic you not only see with your eyes, but with your mind... The question, however, is which is seeing the real truth?

Other that that, I have been a fan of the "Jack of All Trades" in terms of magic in general...

I've always had a passion for ice themes. Ice levels, ice characters, etcetera. So I'd probably take cryomancy. Everyone loved Frozone from the Incredibles right? Originally my thought would be psychic powers, TK, controlling thoughts and more. But I like ice. Ice is nice.

Psychic/mind powers just barely beating out necromancy. I love necromancy cause you don't necessarily have to be evil to be one. An honestly good necromancer could be just terrifying if done right.
But I've always been partial to the list of psychic powers. Telepathy, telekinesis, mental persuasion, and mental alteration are pretty much the most basic levels of this and a clever mind can find nearly infinite uses for them.

Read minds to learn secrets, evil plots, true feelings, where something is hidden, etc.

Mental persuasion to convince people to work for you, with you, to turn on their friends, to tell you information, to get what you want, where you want, when you want.

Mental alteration could be a more forceful version of persuasion, or it could be to do the KOTOR thing and completely change the personality.

But telekinesis is probably the most versatile. There's the obvious of just moving things and throwing them, but if you're smart you don't need the dramatic applications outside of probably 1/10 of the time. Subtler movements could be just as effective. A frayed rope pushed past it's limit or a weak link in a chain being exploited could have hugely disastrous domino effects that would be impossible to track back due to seeming entirely mundane.
Or you could use telekinesis to achieve flight by applying it to your own body. Knowledge of the human anatomy could be exploited to cripple an attacker. Of course, the cleverest would figure out exactly how much their ability could effect and how small. IF it were to extend to atomic or molecular levels one could simulate cryomatic, pyromatic, nature based, or earth based powers effectively and efficiently by simply altering the state of the atoms to add or remove heat or "grabbing" objects in the world to fool others into believing it was nature or earth powers.

Necromancy. Death need not be feared when its secrets are yours to command.

Besides, raising an Undead army has its own benefits: why send your men to die on the field of battle, causing the familial grief that ensues, when you can send those who are already dead instead?

Necromancy. I wouldn't mind living forever and all, even if it's not the most pleasant way to continue. Better than nothing though, as far as I'm concerned.

Plus, while the others are interesting they tend to achieve effects already possible by the laws of physics, albeit with time and effort. Except for demonic magic, whose details are a bit unclear here. But I'd rather not trust in demons. So for me necromancy since it does things beyond what is achievable any other way.

I was expecting a Magic: The Gathering thread (white magic ftw)

But I can't really turn down pyromancy. There is smething satisfying about playing with fire.
