Even though nobody else thinks so, I would go with Link's Awakening. I thought it was the perfect length and difficulty, and because the ending is just so damn sad.

For me it's a tie between Ocarina of Time and Link to the Past. They're the only ones I ever truly played more than once. I tried playing through Twilight Princess for a second time last autumn and for some reason I couldn't get into it at all. I can't explain why, but OoT and LttP feel fresh every time I start a new game.

Majora's Mask or Twilight Princess.

Both have had quite an impact on my life.

Majora's Mask, definitely. The soundtrack was wonderful (including my favorite Zelda boss music), the premise and primary mechanic entertaining and often genuinely creepy, the subquests involving and fun, and the dungeons challenging.

Following that is probably a tie between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, the former for its art style and seriously fun exploration element, the latter for its story and fun-as-all-get-out dungeons (including some great bosses and weapons...Spider-Link, Spider-Link...).

And Ocarina of Time deserves a mention, naturally. Even though it's third in my own list, I still love the game to death. I still get chills whenever I hear <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-xKPWePgRw>the final fight theme.

All in all, a series as old as me...and I love it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, The Legend of Zelda for the NES is not only the best Zelda game but the best game ever.

I'm not saying the series is terrible I'm just saying its repetitive... It's still one of those games that I'll play ever once and a while

The original NES version. My brother recently downloaded it to his Wii and I made into lvl 9 w/ only 3 deaths remembering where almost every lvl entrance was and the maps of the worlds themselves. It is, has always been, and probably always will be my favorite game ever. (I didn't beat it that night because his wife got sick of me playing and made me quit so we could drink more)

Zelda CDI is by far the best. Can't go wrong with CDI games! Haha, nah. I'd say Wind Waker, I guess.

Ocarina of Time is easily my favorite. There is literally no contest. The original was good, the 2nd was pretty fun... Majora's mask? aaaaa, no. Twilight princess? I don't like the Wii so I wouldn't be a good critic. Windwaker? Really? Come on. I just can't get over the fact that Link has been around for 25 years and he still hasn't "manned" up. As in "Hey Link, man up ya pussy."

Ocarina of Time was a revolution in gaming. I don't think it's too bold a claim to say that there has been nothing like it since.

Surprised so many voted for Windwaker, most people I know don't like that one because they're dumb and don't like the cell shading. Voted Ocarina myself because it was the 1st Zelda game I actually completed (Link to the Past was my 1st played but I didn't get far) OoT, Majora's, Link to the Past, and Wind Waker are all close to my favorites.
To be honest, I was a bit against Windwaker because of the stupidly large amount of time spent going in a straight line across an almost featureless ocean. That wasn't horribly fun.

I didn't HATE it or anything, the levels were still good and all, but that pulls it back from being a great one. Also, I don't recall any parts in it where I turned into a wolf and tore out peoples jugulars.

Well not being a super fan Ive only played Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time (in that order) and I thought that TP was a lot of fun, and much better than OoT. But before I get torn apart by die hard Zelda fans, please note that I thought that they were both good, but I just enjoyed TP better, probably because I played it first and have no nostalgia for OoT.
Yeah, OoT was really just amazing due to it being the first Zelda game of that type. It was by far the smoothest transition from 2D to 3D that happened during that stage during the lives of games. Nowadays, it isn't such an incredible thing. All the elements that are fairly wrote in its predecessors originated there (in their current form).

LTTP. It was the last undeniably quality Zelda game. Plus OOT is just LTTP in horrible 3D, with a far inferior two-world system.

Oh, and awful N64 controls.
