II, III, V, and XI were deliberately left out - since they're not likely to have many fans, frankly, and the poll can only contain eight options.Kanlic said:X, but your missing II, III, and XII
i have to agree it was like a revamped version of classic final fantasy that didnt take its self serious and just tried to make the game fun plus the card game was more fun than in ff8Arqus_Zed said:Final Fantasy IX
Okay,
So it didn't have the overhyped materia-system
So it didn't deliver a love/hate relationship with things called 'Draw' and 'Junction System'
And it didn't have a cool silver-haired antagonist with a fallus-compensatingly long blade.
It DID put the fantasy back in Final Fantasy (the hell with cyberpunk themes in FF games!)
It had solid gameplay, gorgeous graphics at the time, awesome CG and a fantastic atmosphere.
A protagonist who wasn't some apathic doesn't-talk-much, but a charismatic thief who hunts for chickies.
It had Vivi Orntitier for crying out loud; good character development + emotions trigger = epic character.
The story is a modernized version of the classical 'epic quest' and the dialogues superbly written.
Last but not least, the music, a huge collection. Nobuo Uematsu delicatly plays your nostalgia and delivers pieces such as 'Jesters of the Moon', 'Loss From Me', 'The Place I will Return To Someday', 'You Are Not Alone', 'Dark Messenger' and many others.
From a critic's point of view, far from being the most innovative jRPG, but nonetheless maybe the most perfect one, creating pure harmony with classical elements.
Even though 9 seems to be in the lead at the time of me making this post.SendMeNoodz84 said:Is it really necessary to make a poll?
I think we can all agree when I say that most people like VII or III the most.
For me it's VII. Definitely.
I liked VII, as it essentially set the benchmark for what JRPGs - if not video games at large - could achieve, aesthetically, in the post-cartridge game design landscape. And in spite of being derided, its narrative also represented a quantum leap forward in terms of straightforwardly addressing post-modern phenomenon in JRPGs, something done more subtley in earlier iterations: whether religious revivalism, corporatism, or environmentalism.Arqus_Zed said:Final Fantasy IX

Indeed, ATOW, IX has about double the votes of it's closest rival.Danzaivar said:Even though 9 seems to be in the lead at the time of me making this post.SendMeNoodz84 said:Is it really necessary to make a poll?

Which I'm glad to see, VII gets way more hype than it's due. It was good, but IX was just fantastic.
