OT: Yeah, this has been talked about before. Not quite sure about being able to play as a girl in Gears though...
Basically, the Gaming companies are prolly under the impression that any guy will buy a game with any sort of sex appeal, and that we don't like a deep, coherent female character.

To be fair, in most RPGs with character customization you have the option to play as a girl. And when the heroine does not have a lot of personality, that is not because she is a girl; if you take a closer look you will see that the male protagonist does not have much in the way of a personality either.AngelofDarrkness said:

By mature I mean "subtle, three-dimensional," not nude. Like... Jade, in Beyond Good And Evil, or Alyx Vance.

A girl in the cod games? that completely defeats the purpose of the games. They are solely there to stroke male egos. You know how the community reacts when a girl even plays the games? could you imagine what would happen when one of the characters IS a girl?

There's nothing wrong with the bikinis or whatever, unless the characters themselves feel like it is. It's THEIR character, after all.
Conan, for example, is the most bad-ass warrior I know and that is because he moves swiftly like a panther due to his lack of armor (most of the times).
He practically fights in the nude, getting a great advantage in movement and so on...
Also, the wind feels good at your half naked body. It's also more bearable when you get sweaty from all the hacking and slashing.
But alas, none has yet to depict Conan as something sexist against males all around the world because he has these big muscles and gets ALL the ladies. He's also somewhat smart but can easily get fooled by some wenches here and there...

Well, as for customizable characters; I'd like to see that in all games. Not just "chose your gender" but be able to vary in helmets/caps/boonies, vests, grenade belts and so on in FPSs. That would be really cool, everyone having their own personalized character^^.

But the games OP pointed out and Xblades and such are a bit of a lowshot since those are made (specially DAO) to be sexistic games.
I rather flame Masseffect, Dragon age and all the other games that SOLELY have females for the cleavage and/or Boobage by the multitude.
Also, GoW as a girl?

I couldn't understand the OP, but I assume that it's about games being sexist due to females being objectified, right? If so than I disagree with you: males are objectified just as often as females. Can you name three separate games that star a male lead that does not look like chiselled marble on steroids? (JRPGs not included)
Basically, unless the story requires an unattractive lead, the designers will give the character a look that appeals to their customers, so if you want someone to blame, blame humans for finding attractive people attractive.
