She brought across the badass anti-hero thing very well. It's good that she's getting more public recognition for her part in the games.

Eh. I don't care since, to me, Shepard will always, always be a man. A red haired man of irish descent who had a fling with Liara but then they both matured and realized it was a love affair born out of the heated pressure of the situation, the warning of iminent death. Now they are close friends and Shepard is pursuing a more meaningful relationship with Tali.

Just like Hawke was always a calm, diplomatic, male, gay rogue and the Fable 3 hero was always a kind, straight-to-business kind of woman.

Fem-Shep doesn't work for me at all.

I like that it will be included and I like that Bioware isn't afraid to do what they want with their games no matter who bitches at them, but Man Shepard has never had the option for a same sex romance, I'm afraid that any man on man love that involves Man Shepard is going to feel shoe-horned in.

This isn't a problem for Lady Shepard as she has had the option in the first, and I think the second, game. But anyone palying Man Shepard has already probably had two opposite sex romances, I'm not sure how they're going to work in the same sex romance.

Well, considering neither Shepard nor any of the squadmembers of either previous game has ever explicitly made an account for their sexual orientation, it is simply an elaboration on that particular aspect of the character.

As for how it will be portrayed, I have faith in BioWare. Dragon Age 2, for all the (largely) undeservedly harsh criticism it received, was a great accomplishment in this area.

Anyway, the fact that FemShep was allowed to pursue a homosexual relationship in the previous games and MaleShep wasn't was an example of glaring hypocrisy, so I am just happy to see that rectified. And I'm pleased FemShep will finally be allowed to pursue a tangible relationship with a female human.

It wouldn't make much sense seeing a Sheploo has his face on both covers of the first two and is present in all of Mass Effect marketing as a whole. Hell, Sheploo has his own action figure. Clearly the market department has already decided to use Sheploo's face. All FemShep fans can hope to see is maybe a gameplay trailer featuring FemShep, but for the bulk of the marketing it is always going to be Sheploo.

aside from trailers...and the cover of the game theres really nothing that makes male shep more "official" than femshep, he is really just a marketing tool, and I guess I can sort of understand his "mass-apeal" of youll excuse the pun

however EVERYONE who as played the game knows you can play as femshep, so Ive never understood this argument..who is it going to "confuse" exactally if there is a female trailer? somone whos never played the game before? a quick google search generally answers any "confusion" somone has over a videogame

plus shes got a fanbase so why not?

As gender makes absolutely no difference whatsoever to the story I don't see how this matters one jot.
The only thing it affects is romance, and if you look at the story the devs really force you in to Liara. She's been the only party member who can't die, and the only party member both genders can romance.

How very odd of them. The Cannon Shepard is male, this has been established since he appeared on the cover of the first game. To have some trailers use a female Shepard will only result in inconsistency and confusion.
It's not even like it's a new and amazing feature they're revealing - everybody who's played either of the other two games will know that they can choose Sheperd's gender. And not only that, but the appearance as well. I don't know a single person who has used the default male Shepard.

So yeah... other than to please fans, this doesn't make any sense at all to me.

A cinematic Shepard doesn't somehow override the arc of the games. The games are the source, remember? They comprise the "true" narrative.

Regardless, we haven't even had it confirmed the potential film will feature "him". As in Shepard. It'd probably be a smart move, as it would allow the filmmakers to expand on other events in the Mass Effect universe without infringing on the tabula rasa which is that character.

Of course I can deny it.
It's an adaptation.
It's not the source.
It's an alternative interpretation (if even that, as we've had no clear information as to what the film will portray).
Therefore, no official canon.
Granted, the film franchise, if there will be any such thing, will naturally have its own particular canonical story. But again, that doesn't detract from the fact that Shepard, as she or he is in the games, is interchangeable and undefined.

It's a prequel about the First Contact War. Shepard isn't even in it. Christ, get your facts straight before attempting to "burst people's bubbles".
