Poll: Fencer vs. Samurai

Credit to Decoy Doctorpus in the Knight vs. Samurai post.

A duel, so no armour. The samurai would be using his katana and wakizashi, the fencer could be regular or florentine.

I think this would be a great match, against two equally trained and skilled fighters. Pissing contest excluded please. I think here the fencer would have more maneuverability because of his lighter weapon but the samurai more power. (least comparing the rapier versus the katana)

Two completely different styles of fighting, but I like samurai's more. I vote samurai.

This would be... Interesting, to say the least. I think it really does come down to the fact that neither would be horribly capable of fighting the other. The problem herein is the fighting styles are so different it can only in in a lucky play by one or the other, or both dieing as the samurai cleaves the fencer's shoulder, just in time to be ran through.

Have to say fencer on this one. Swordplay down to a finer science and speed is paramount. Swordplay of the samurai isn't nearly as refined as you might think.

True, the only reason I didn't put a Tie choice is because that could happen, but I hate it when people saddle the fence. If they don't kill each other on the first pass, I think a fencer would have a decent chance of wining. If he evaded the blade and poked out rather than trying to block it. Though if he had the more sabre style weapons it might be a decent exchange.
