To anyone wondering:
The character creation is good, and has a nice amount of depth. You can pick your race, clan, birthday, star sign, and class. I've only tried out the "war" classes so far, I'll maybe try the others out another time. I've never really bothered with the lore in MMO's, I usually just pick whatever and continue without bothering to read it. I actually read the lore this time though, and it's quite interesting, especially the lore for the clans of a race. For example, you can pick the general human clan, or pick the more tribal like human clan each with their own specific back story. I enjoy watching my character progress in MMO's, and I like that little virtual attachment you have to a character you designed, and I appreciate how Square Enix have put time into allowing me as a player to create and make a character that is unique to me. I ignored the lore in Aion, and I only found out the other day that the race I picked are a bunch of failures, as their ancestors would be "ashamed" of them if they could see their position today. I should maybe pay more attention to the lore in the future..
The gameplay is quite hit or miss I imagine, I like it because it's unique and I can see it being really fun and tactical at higher levels, especially when parties are introduced, and you have multiple people queuing up attacks, spells and buffs all at the same time. I imagine that enemies would also be designed with this in mind, so battles could get interesting. The quest system reminds me of Monster Hunter, I haven't got far into FF:XIV so I'm not sure if it goes beyond this, but the only quests I did were ones taken from the "adventurer's guild" in the main city, I then activated them at a stone in the required location, and I was given a time limit to complete the task, and rewarded upon completion. You could also pick higher difficulties, which would require grouping with other players most likely. I had no problem with this though, it was a different system from other games I've played, but still very much enjoyable.
All in all, I'm enjoying my time playing FF:XIV and I am definitely tempted to buy it when it's released. I've still got more to learn about the game and at the moment I'm quite a nab. I'd encourage anyone to check it out, you can apply for the Beta here [http://entry.ffxiv.com/na/index.html]. I'm not sure if their still taking people (I assume they are), but you can always give it a try anyway.
Is anyone here in the Beta, or played it? If so, leave your impressions here. For anyone who hasn't played it, are you going to buy it, try it, or consider it?
I luckily got in the Beta, and after a few hours on it today (I haven't been able to play on prior testing dates due to connection problems) I'm quite impressed. I was confused at first, but some guy helped me out and pointed me in the right direction, and I kinda understand what I'm supposed to be doing now, although I have no idea how to spend my attribute points and the game seems to hate the mouse, I've resorted to just using the keyboard for everything, using IJKL to move the camera and WASD to move the player. It's weird, but it means I can put my feet up and play with the keyboard on my lap.Final Fantasy XIV Online is the fourteenth installment in the Final Fantasy series, due for release on September 30, 2010 for Microsoft Windows and March 2011 for PlayStation 3. The game is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game and is developed and published by Square Enix. The game takes place in a land called Hydaelyn, mainly in a region named Eorzea, which will have a contemporaneously aesthetic blend of science fiction and classic fantasy elements.

I personally wouldn't have picked the Elf looking race, but to each their own.

Keep in mind this is low-level gameplay, so there aren't many skills available or tactics required, so it's fairly slow and simplistic.
