I initially had a question about my code in one I am making but while typing it out I spotted the problem myself, go me. Deciding to keep the rest though because what the hell right?

So that there is an actual discussion going on, do you enjoy flash games simplicity every once in a while as a contrast of these day's Dragon Age and such? Personally between all the great games coming out right now I don't really find the time to fiddle around on the addicting little things, back in the day they were 50% of my life...
Oh and if you have a favourite, share the wealth.

I suppose iPhone/iPod touch games work too.(though I don't own one myself I think they're pretty similar to your average flash game).

(did a bit of a search and only found a suggest a flash game one, not much discussion there I suppose).

I generally only go on flash games when they show up on the Escapist...
Or if I feel like playing Flash Trek 2: Broken Mirror.
Been a while since I played that... I wasted so much ime, but it was so fun...

I'll occasionally drop by Newgrounds if something like "Light People on Fire" or "You Must Burn the Rope" pops up. I don't generally sit around for hours just playing flash games, though. They're usually just time-killers for me.

Only really ALT+ESC games sometimes, and if someone links me one. Otherwise I would just end up playing bejewelled all the time and nothing would get done...

I dabble occasionaly in a flash game or two.
But other than that, I was never really into flash games as a kid growing up, (I was playing real games on my N64/PS1/PS2/Xbox/Dreamcast!).
I'm not trying to be snooty here, its just that the flash games today are FAR better, longer and more complicated than the games 3-5 years ago.
Its like Java really.

Stricly back on topic track though: the simplicity of flash games can be fairly refreshing, its just annoying when you're hounded by "casual" gamers about these games. I absolutely LOATHE farm town, and other facebook games, (bar Bejewled Blitz, which is fairly good for a few rounds when I'm, bored).

Kongregate is probably the best portal for flash games though, and I have played some very interesting games there.

Farmville? TBH I'm not sure, but does that count as a game? I agree that it's a terrible waste of time/'game', but some facebook games can be fun (as long as they don't send out hundreds of notifications and posts and all that). Like, Jetman (which is really copter) or Icy tower, both allow you to compare highscores with friends which could be fun. But both of these games have annoying credit esque things which expect you to go do surveys or send invites to friends, which is unnecessary.

EDIT: Also, Kongregate has achievements :( other than that it's great but I find achievements force you to focus on one thing in a game and succeeding at that, ignoring the rest of the possibilities (unless the achievements are: Finish game, get X amount of points, which can be fun I suppose)

Silly me for getting the name wrong, but I still hold my argument firm, especially since you yourself reminded me of another thing I hate about Facebook games: Surveying for points/microtransactions!
Seriously it was bad enough MMOs are doing this, now flash games are doing it. I absolutely detest videogame designers designing a game that requires you to pay to play the game properly, (at least for extended periods of time), but emphasise its "feeness" in its advertising. Its really dishonest and it manipulates people's stupidity.

If anything, these games should gradually lead you into the paying path, and not shunt you into the "free" group because you're not willing to pay.

EDIT: I do agree partially to your statement about achievements, but I also think they are a good way of getting a bit more life out of a game.

I just joined Newgrounds as I recently learnt AS3.0 so needed some inspiration, not really working on anything yet just building bases of games and seeing what I like. Could do with an artist...

Moving off topic there, but yes, joined Newgrounds and get sent the best ones in my email, and some of them have actually been really good, found myself playing those for longer than I intended.

I dabbled before, but it's been a lot recently due to me making my own.

Edit: on the topic of Facebook games I'm holding out for Civilisation, played Poker once or twice but it wasn't anything special.

What's your opinion on AS2 vs AS3? I'm just making an extremely (seriously) simple game for school with AS 2 and no prior knowledge of how to do things (which I was initially going to ask a question about). Is AS3 better or simpler or what?

Normally, when I'm bored, I'll pop on over to newgrounds for a quick play.
