I have been severely behind in catching updates with some of my favorite genres of gaming for quite awhile.
I am not even very sure how popular Flight Simulators are anymore (curse my hatred for online communities) but I am sure at least a few people play them, perhaps a few more could assist me in finding a nice title.

Preferably for the PS2/PSP and or PC what are some good ones out there?

** OR just flight games in general, planes are sexy.

The original "Combat Flight Simulator" was pretty frigging awesome. A little dated now though.

The Combat Flight Simulators are good (2 is my favourite)

There was another one that came our around the same time as 2 but was much more simulation based, it's name escapes me but it was awesome and rock hard.

Or good old Crimson Skies. Not a simulation as such but awesome.

Haven't played one since Flight Sim 95. I'm sure the graphics have been improved since then, but the gameplay is still tedious and repetitive. If I really wanted to play flight simulators all the time, I'd just go to flight school and become a pilot.

Crimson Skies is absolutely beautiful; I didn't add XBOX up there because mine has someone gotten some sort of syndrome and the loading times are insane but oh how I wish to play it again.
Also Dreamcast but I doubt anyone cares about that now :[

IL-2 Sturmovik (preferably IL-2 Sturmovik 1946)
Hands down, the best WW2 flight simulator out there.
This is one of those rare times where the use of the word "best" isn't actually subjective, but cold hard fact.
Anyone who disagrees has either not played it, or they have some kind of kitchen utensil lodged into a vital area of their brain.

Crimson Skies is a PC game too.

Get it for PC and fling yourself at the custom aircraft mods, bags of stuff to be doing there.

Yea I figured; I'll have to look into that and see if this junk heap of a computer has enough juice to run even this. I'm sure I can screw around with it.
That custom bit there is a huge turn on.

Do you happen to know if the one for PSP is any good? Those screen shots show promise in the PC version of course; oh my. I want to be playing this now thnx.

I didn't even know there was a PSP version.
I can only give my recommendation for the PC version, since I've only played that one.
Though if it does exist on other platforms, it will likely still be a good game.
Still, the PC version has 256 flyable planes, even more with mods (plus the ability to use NUKES)
I'm not sure how that would stack up against other versions, but I would hazard a guess that the PC version would be the better choice.

However, I think there is supposed to be a next gen console version of the game coming out soon as well, but I don't know much about that one either.

Depends on how much of a simulation you want.

If you're the kind of Grognard who wants every facet of their aircraft simulated, right down to how the air density, and your weapons loadout affects performance, and having every button in the cockpit being clickable, then Falcon 4.0 with the Free Falcon 5 mod is for you.

If you like to just rain hell on your enemies, and don't want to read through an 800 page manual, then I wholeheartedly suggest HAWX, or Ace Combat Zero.
