Recently stumbled upon this title in my local movie/game rental store.

From the box it looked fucking awesome! One of the rare games that actually intrigued me with the cover, creatively designed monsters and good artistic design.

I think it's quite strange I have literally never heard about this game. Checked Meta-critic but I doubt a game like this gets good reviews from the moronic game critic audience.

Anyone tried it? What's it like?

Check out the video review and decide for yourself. Doesn't seem like a bad game, I've just never heard of it.

i own this game and let me say, while it can be annoying due to the fact you're basically playing each level twice but then again you're doing so to get both sides of the story, but the soundtrack and story are great and overall it's a good game.

i reccommend it

It's a great game and a good buy, due to the lack of rpg's on the ps3 at the moment.
What really stands out in this game is the art direction, it's just so beautifull and so refreshing when you compare it to the other games out on the platform.
Some minor issues here and there but innovative at the same time.
Sadly none of my friends own it and I don't think alot of people do, real shame and why I consider this a gem.
Not for every one though.

Great game I recently stumbled upon it as well and made a thread here on the forums. Buy it, amazing experience unlike any other game i've ever played.

Agreed. It's a lil hidden gem. I own it as well. It has an old almost sega cd flair to it in the way tells the story with cut scene panels and artsy music. And the combat is pretty innovative. Its a real time rpg where the creatures your cloak more or less "captures" become your weapons. The art direction is nice and it seems the game just came out to soon and flew really low under the radar. It is different enough where it may not be for everyone. But It's the perfect rpg for the people that keep pleading for something different. If that makes sense :)

On a side note it is a little bit difficult. There's a warzoneish type level with goblins and things.. and when you get to the giant tanks it can get very frustrating. Anyway def. check it out.

I give it two thumbs up. Its story and unique combat system make this game worth checking out.

Awesome, thanks for the help.

I tend to like 'unique' games, so I'll definetly give this a try.

I like to think that we're all not too jaded to let some handling issues ruin our enjoyment of a game, especially one where the art direction, athmosphere and presentation are sublime :p.

One of my absolute favorite games to come out in recent memory. Get it. You'll love it.

Oh, and I'm part of that game critic audience, you know. ;) Here's what I wrote about it when I listed it on my Favorite Games of the Year list in 2007:

Although its core gameplay is somewhat unremarkable, what makes Folklore (PlayStation 3) truly special is that it creates a nearly palpable atmosphere, a true feeling of otherworldliness. Everything from the music to the comic book-like cut scenes to the designs of the Folk themselves combines to make you feel as though you?ve been dropped into the pages of a child?s storybook. The intertwining stories of Ellen and Keats will keep you guessing and enchanted as you explore the stunningly beautiful realms of the Netherworld, adding to your menagerie of weird and wonderful Folk.

To be fair, I'm sure he used "moronic" in the nicest sense of the word.

Wow, your recommendation and short review sure sound like everything I want in a game. I am browsing Amazon as I type this :D.

I'll get it! "Excellent! A victory for good taste" :D

Sorry for that little 'moronic' there, but you do know what I mean, right?

Its a good game if you liked more artsy kind of games like Psychonots or Beyond Good and Evil. But its very RPGish (which isn't bad in my opinion, its just not everyone likes it), the battle scheme takes a little getting used to, and its pretty linear.

But, overall, about an 8.5 or something like that.
