A Hermit's Cave
I had a few ideas for polls yesterday evening, but I've had one military thread so I won't go for it. Had another political one, but that's a bit heavy at the moment, and besides, I'm hungry.

Wondered what proportion of you had each staple food.

Being of Chinese origin... rice, all the way, rice.

... now, hello, lunch, time for you to get acquainted with my stomach.

I eat meatballs, noodles and very spicy sauce. The kind of sauce you won't even find in a regular grocery store.

Edit: If that wasn't what you were wondering, sorry. I just realized that I didn't really understand the question.

Second Edit: Now I understand the question and my answer is Pastaaaaaaaaaaaaa[footnote]cookie for reference[/footnote] in the form of noodles.

When I read the options, I thought this was a bit of a daft poll. Then I read the "staple" part of the OP and suddenly it made a bit more sense.

To be honest, I eat quite a lot of all the options (apart from rocks). My mother's allotment provides me with a good source of spuds ("potatoes" to non-Brits) and other veg but I also eat a lot of rice (home-made curries with home-grown chillies are miles better than any take-away's offerings!), pasta and bread too. I voted for spuds but in all honesty I don't think I eat them in any greater (significant) quantity over the others.

I tend to go for pasta myself. It's easy to prepare and you can give it all sorts of flavors with different combinations of vegetables, sauces and seasonings. It can be pretty healthy for you too if you go with whole wheat/whole grain pasta and just garnish it with some cooked veggies and garlic.

...dang, now I'm hungry.

Meat. I eat a wide variety of food types. The only similarity is it will almost always contain meat of some form. Almost said bread because of pizzas, or pasta due to a lot of pasta, but opted for other due to all the meat and non-bread/pasta I eat. Could have possibly went with corn due to all the nachos and tacos, but a lot of the mexican food I eat is wrapped in flour so...

Meat.

I think from the poll he was referring to the general side dish with every meal. Unless meat is your side dish for your steak, in which case that's fine.

You really need an option in your poll that says all of the above. Being Australian I suppose potatoes would be my usual staple but corn, bread, rice, pasta, polenta, cous cous, lentils and chickpeas are all on the menu.

If that's the case, I don't have a staple side dish. Just whatever I need to help eat the meat and give it more variety. Like I said in my original post, could go with bread or pasta or corn or flour or even rice due to all the non-pasta oriental food, though a lot of that would also be pasta. I'm also a meat and potatoes guy at heart so...

Sticking with meat.

I like to mix up my meals. I don't really tend to have one thing any more than any of the others.
I eat a pretty balanced amount of pasta, potatoes and rice. Also rocks.

I tend to eat meat, it doesn't matter what is with it as long as it is meaty goodness.

Anything from curries to sammiches if it has meat in it theres I high chance I'll be eating it.

Bread and Pasta + taters tend to just be filler that goes alongside my meats and I usually swap them around depending on how I feel (All of my meals have some kind of meat in them)

Whenever I'm hungry, I just make a salami and pepperoni sandwich with ketchup chips as a side and some pepsi.

I'll be satisfied for HOURS.

Ditto that. Perhaps potatoes are at a minimum in my diet, but I eat a bunch of rice, pasta and bread. I chose rice though, because that's my usual fallback when I have no idea what to make for dinner and I often make some in the mornings to take to school.

I eat very little of any of those options. I like rice and potatoes quite a bit, I don't like bread or pasta much.
However, I can't eat much carbohydrate in any form, it always gives me very nasty heartburn. If I avoid all carbs, I have a pain-free esophagus. If I do eat them, I get awakened by pain four or five times a night. So my food intake consists of lots of meat and low-carb vegies.

Pasta, rice and potatoes are all equally great in my books. The real star of the meal is meat anyway.
