No, I probably wouldn't.

It seemed to me that the more I played the game and learned the story, the further from the original KoTOR games ToR got. The story for the Exile and Revan completely trash everything I loved about their character arcs.

Between ToR and ME3's ending, it's starting to look like Bioware forgot everything that made their earlier games satisfying and great.

It'd probably be an admission of failure on their part. If they did do that, or if/when it ever becomes F2P I would definitely play it, just in a vain attempt to capture some of that old Galaxies magic (though I know it probably won't come close, I mean come on, ALL Bounty Hunters are just Boba/Jango Fett knock offs?)

Not to single you out or anything but why are people abbreviating it at ToR? The O in Old is capitalized. You even abbreviate Knights of the Old Republic as KoTOR so why isn't The Old Republic TOR?

Nah, Bioware's ability to write is undermined by the fact that it's an MMO rather than any failure on their part. MMO worlds are by their very nature static so your choices simply can't be reflected in the world.

Quoted for truth. This is ultimately why most MMOs struggle when compared with offline counterparts.

IIRC Yahtzee made an observation along these lines in his Age of Conan review. He said he found the whole "Chosen One" or "Destined One" business a little hard to swallow in lieu of all the other Chosen Ones running around the same area. TOR has to give the impression of scope, giving every player a story that is both personal and epic while at the same time having zero consequences for the galaxy at large. After all, at level 50 we just become another max level character, the only gameplay being PvP or repeatable PvE content.

It's an interesting take, adding the story and RPG back into the MMO mix. I think it worked reasonably well. My two 50s both have distinct and interesting personalities, went through interesting stories with room for choice (which I hope will be reflected in future expansions). The game could've been a lot better though, but copying WoW mechanics meant that most real innovation was sadly not reflected in gameplay.

I'd love it. I'd easy pay 60 bucks for a game with Snake as a Jedi and FemShep as, well, the same character.

I loved ToR's campaign/PvE story-archs. But being weighed down with the giant baggage of being an MMO is what killed it (and giving $15 a month to EA.)

I don't think it's being an MMO that's killing it. It's being a subscription-based mmo that is killing it. As much as I would love to have a single player tOR, a micro-transaction based tOR would play fine for me (although, I'm terrified about what EA would maul about micro-transactions...)
