Poll: FPS Focus Problem

I was having a problem playing MW3 and noticed that there was this one problem that had been following me throughout a large portion of my gaming history.

Focus on the object I'm aiming at.

The scenario was that I was lying prone in some tall grass sniping at people coming down a pathway. Normally whatever is in the front of the screen is rendered in high detail while everything to the sides gets blurred some. Well, the blade of grass just off the side of the cross-hair was coming in fine but past that point, the things I was aiming at were looking closer to mud than a guy about to throw a nade over at me even though I was trying to ignore that bit of vegetation.

I think that developers are accidentally mixing up where I'm aiming the gun versus where I am actually looking. While running around the map, I don't point the gun off to the side as I take a quick glance to that part of the screen while I sprint forwards to cover. It kind of breaks the game for me.

I know having everything coming in focused may cause issues with the system having to load everything but don't our eyes already blur out the sides? The game shouldn't be doing it for us. I'd rather have an extra 2min on the loading screen that be killed because my character was too distracted by literally a blade of grass when I'm trying to win a game of domination.

For discussion's sake, have any of you had similar incidents or would like longer loading screens in exchange for the feature being removed?

Oh duuuuuuuuuuude. You posted this in the wrong forum. Do you know how many people are now going to write you off as a dumb 12 year old because you enjoy CoD? I mean, I won't, but I know a lot of people will. Others will just post the general "Activision is evil" arguments and then leave. You probably should have asked this on an FPS forum or something.

It's not just with MW3. It happens in almost all of my FPS games ... x_x

And you dig a deeper hole. See, now a bunch of people on here are going to take the fact that you own multiple FPS games and use that to say you're holding back innovation in games and halting their evolution because you bought them and play them. Now, again, I'm not doing that, since I know how stupid those arguments are, but some people on here will do that regardless.

Edit: I could be confusing the escapist with the comments sections of art game reviews on destructoid.

Na, you just sound like a subliminal troll. The whole genera war thing is common knowledge. Only people still arguing over the ones who're well ... psychotic for lack of a better term.

P.S. Protip: Don't try to troll till a few posts after the OP or you stick out too soon ... if that's what you're trying.

I'm not trying to be a troll. It's just that.. well.. I recently played the MW2 and call of duty 2 demos, and they were pretty fun. However, there are people in the gaming community that would probably insult me on that basis. I've seen it before. For example, whenever someone criticizes an "art game" there are a bunch of people who rush to tell him "You just don't get it, so go back to call of duty because call of duty is for stupid 12 year olds like you", or something to that extent. It kind of makes me mad, as I enjoyed the demos I've played, and I know that if I were to admit that, I might be written off as an immature moron.

All I can say is for every 'hater' of 'X' game type, there's people who disagree with them. Anyways, this is derailing the focus of the thread. I'm talking about games that change the characters literal visual focus on an object displayed on screen rather than what the player is actually looking at in real life.

What you like to play is not my business to judge.

Now what you're referring to is Depth of Field and not Field of View which doesn't effect what objects are drawn onscreen but the post effect applied afterward on each frame. Some games treats this dynamically and may change depending on what you're looking at and how far it is. If you're seeing something like that then that's why you're being distracted by it when you're not supposed to be.

In fact, I don't understand why developers try to emulate camera lens effects like DoF or lens flair. FoV I understand but the game camera is basically a floating set of eyeballs and not a physical film camera.

Maybe you need glasses?

IDK, when I first started 'losing' my eye sight FPS were the first thing I noticed...
Well, that and the chalkboard was kind of hard to read from the back.

Like it was said before it is a Depth of Field issue, devs think they are real clever turning it up to ridiculous levels blurring half the screen to be "cinematic".
But when playing competitively that shit is just reducing your vision, combined with piss for FoV makes these modern shooters extremely irritating to play.

You should be able to adjust those effects in options, if the game is made by a decent developer that is.

This guy's right. This is very much a 'Mass Effect/Fallout/Elder Scrolls or GTFO' forum.

Getting back to the OP's problem... I've never experienced that before. But then again I don't hard scope camp like a little *****!!!! (j/k, there's nothing wrong with that)

Getting rid of that blurring shouldn't dramatically increase loading times anyway but it might sacrifice frames per second which I consider to be unacceptable (I assume you're on a console?).
