There's a new fad ravaging my XBL inbox with messages telling me to go to some web site which will supposedly give me free microsoft points. I haven't made a valiant effort at getting the points, mainly because I'm fairly certain it's illegal. So what do you, be fellow Escapees, have to say about this? Have you done it? Do you disagree with the practice?

Anything that sounds to good to be true is probably illegal, just remember that and life will go much more smoothly

Nope. It's a random code generator. Could work eventually, but odds are slim, and it's breaking the law. I have learned that when you break the law, the law breaks you. Also, I'm too lazy and ethical to take part in it.

I am also getting those messages from both my friends and random people and I can honestly say "I don't think its real and I don't care."

If something is worth buying I'll pay for it I'm not the kind of person that just buys whatever cause I have some extra bucks to spend.

When it comes to crimes like downloading free microsoft points or music, I usually want to do it just so I can have the thrill of breaking the law without the thrill of getting tasered. It's kind of like jaywalking. But the reason I usually don't do it is because I am extremely distrustful of anything that is even internet related.

First of all its a scam / illegal and theft. Will end up getting you banned. Plus these sites are usually full of trojans etc

It's a sham.
I've seen it around and it doesn't work as they promise.

I haven't gone through it myself so I can't be 100% sure, but from what i've seen about it and the spamming of the links it's just a big pyramid scheme. There may be odd people that do get points, but it's all set up to get money for the site.

To be perfectly blunt, I would be very surprised if it wasn't a phishing scam: most things offering free stuff usually are (an exception being the Nintendo Points Boutique, run by Nintendo of Europe, and linked to only in Nintendo's own sites, so you know it's a good one. Pity that 400 Stars = 100 Points).

I've noticed they are always advertised by 12 year olds.

Much like this so called "10th prestige hack".

Thats the one I always hear. Well some variation of 10th prestige give me moneys, which is annoying enough when your playing Modern Warfare 2 but it's just damned retarded when you get them during a match on Battlefield Bad Company 2.

In any case, everyone boosting nukes and 10th prestige made the whole thing quite worthless to me, I felt what was the point to working towards something if everyone just cheats their way their anyhow as no one would know you did it legit.

Scam, specifically akin to a Ponzi (without the banking part). IIRC, the more people that go to the website, the more that website's worth goes up. By "promising" people "free" points in return for simply getting people to view the page, they're boosting the page views. Or something like that.
