There are 3 types of people that have guns.

Type 1 are People that only buy guns to use (Legally). Such as Hunting, clay pigeon shooting, that sort of thing. Also self defense.

Type 2 is a gun collector. This person usually enjoys all the aspects of type 1, and also has a large collection. He may have hundreds, but nearly all of them will either be incases or storage. He will keep roughly 5 guns on hand that he uses regularly.

Then you have type 3. The gun nut. This is the guy that gets kicked out of militias. They will have a gun in every room of the house, keep one on their person at all times, and thinks that concealed weapons are more important than freedom of speech.

Murderer is in a different category, because they don't give a shit about the Law. Gun laws don't do anything, because illegal guns are easy to get. It is impossible to prevent someone from killing people by making a gun law. All gun laws do is give the illusion that you are safer.

If someone is going on a killing rampage, they aren't doing the 15 day waiting period.

Even if someone has a criminal record, they'll will still get their hands on guns from runners and gangs. We should just take out the middle man and let every all citezins above 18 buy and own a gun.
The problem there is that most gun violence doesn't come from gangs and random criminals hanging out on the street, but from everyday people who just snap or have some sort of plan that others don't know of. Legal gun owners are often a bigger threat than criminal gun owners. What I would like to see happen (in the U.S. at least) is for people who want to own anything other than a shotgun or hunting rifle to have to join the national guard or another military branch.

Very true, but Even a pistol? I mean, like a 9mm (or smaller), used for receration of self-defense? I'd think it would be easier to defend your self with a pistol than a shot-gun, even more so when they are intruding your home.
Some would argue that pistols are more dangerous as you can have them with you when you decide to murder somebody and they are just as capable of killing a person as a shotgun.

So we should ban pistols on the grounds that if someone decides to commit murder they have a change of heart when they realise pistol ownership is illegal?

A ban would mean that they stop being produced and any that the authorities find would be taken out of circulation, it is not perfect but it helps.

I live in the UK, pistols were banned here in 1997. The number of crimes involving handguns hase gone UP steadily since because they are readily available on the black market and criminals feel very safe using them. Because no law abiding citizen carrys a gun they know they will always be better armed. How do you think they would feel if even 10% of us carried concealed weapons?

I have to ask: did your finger slip while you were typing the title, or was that intentional?

It is ridiculous that you can buy an assault weapon in the U.S. No amount of deer hunting requires armor piercing rounds and a muzzle velocity of 3,200 ft/s.

Vengeful Bambina, the deadliest world of warcraft mob ever would disagree with you.
I don't think we should have assault rifles but we should be able to have all the guns we want for self defense. For those who say guns kill people, so does a car in the hands of an irresponsible person.

Just out of curiosity are there any reasonable poll options I might have missed?

Dude, guns aren't cool...fistfights are the way to go my friend.
can't bring a fist to a gunfight... it gets shot full of more holes than swiss cheese.
But don´t bring a gun to a knife fight.Everyone will gang up on you.And trust there aren't enough bullets in that gun.
there are if it's a p99.
But it burns so fast through the ammo that if you don´t hit everyone your dead.Since the reloading the p99 takes a little time.
you are thinking of the p80. the p99 is a pistol.
Fungive me for asking, but why do we care?

I think that the only bar on a citizen owning a firearm should be a criminal record for a serious crime, i.e. GBH, robbery etc., or serious mental illness.

I read this on a forum some where it said. "Gun Control is necessary to hit your target" It might have actually been this website just a different forum. Either way it was hilarious.

Dunno about you, but I feel alot safer knowing that the police can't shoot me just because they're pissed that McFatfraks is out out of coffee and dohnuts.

And, could you provide some evidence for this "steadily gone up thing", please.

2 (or 3, whatever floats your boat if you're American or whatever's your cup of tea if not) words: Sawed-off shotty. The pellets don't penetrate enough to be a serious danger to someone in another room or house, and anything in a narrow hallway had better pray faster than they ever have in their life. I'm pretty sure sawed-offs are legal somewhere, somehow in America, and they are extremely easy to use, carry, and point. Hell, you don't even have to be accurate most of the time!

What exactly is your definition of an "Assault Weapon"?
I direct you to the front page, good sir, where Berethond and I essentially settled this. Pretty much just a partial misunderstanding of the more technical bits about firearms on my part.

I'm sorry, I should have looked over the thread better.

No biggie. It's a long thread, and you shouldn't have to look over all of it if you don't want to.
