Wow a lot of hate in this thread. Yeah, Im a furry.
Well can't expect less when people only see the sexual aspect of it, or when that aspect of it is the most vocal along with the grown ups in silly animal costumes.

From my expereince with furry people, bitching and whining complaining and demanding attention, or as a actualy example a guy in TF2 was a furry but was crying over his mic saying he isn't a furry, and then sprays a picture of Star Fox ramming that blue fox thing.

Or constant bitching and whining saying that it's not their faults when NO ONE BROUGHT IT UP.

Or trying to convert people into furries with strange reasons.

So with that experience I can calmly say, and not give a shit about someone bitching about it afterwards. go Yiff in hell furry people.

To furries that like it as a art, and not further down the lane, your OK in my books, just don't ***** about furry hate or you get marked with the rest of 'em :p

p.s. I tried to say ***** as much as possible for the irony. (Get it? Female dog? aha .. aha... ahhaa......oh god where has my comedy gone? )

Activate... FLAME SHIELD!

Results? IT'S SUPER EFFECTIVE!

*edit*

After a quick read I thought I'd add this reeaaal quick to prevent my flame shield from being stressed.

My disgust goes directly to "Yiffy" people. Not so much that they are fapping to animals, it's not the weirdest thing people have fapped to (that place is taken by yaoi) but the bitching and whining they give off after wards.

Long story short

Furry's need to whine less and just go to their own cubicle. The rest of the world should put out their torches and go back to their life.

All the whining & bitching is just so tiresome and resolves nothing.

i used to be freaked out by furries, especially fursuiters, until i met this fursuiter, who i forgot his name

i laughed so hard at him (because he was being funny, not in mocking) it made my day better, and pretty much after that, i just was like "maybe they arent all having fursuit buttsex in walmart"

though i still raged at the fursuiters lined up to see bolt, wtf.

Well, I consider myself to be a furry. Not the full blown kind with the weird fetish and costumes, no offense to you out there. I just find the artistic style to be kind of unique and interesting.

Although its kind of weird to see all of the furry pron...

Yep, its the small group of them that make the whole fandom look like they do. It happens everywhere.

I am throughly indifferent to the concept of being a furry. In fact, one of my friends is a furry. However:

The furry fandom is something people like me refer to as an "Easy Target".

I'll leave it at that.

P.S. Oh god, the fursuiters!

I suppose it is inevitable that someone like me would make this topic, or someone already had, but I figured may as well. What is your opinion on the furry fandom?

Let me state that if you hate the fandom I don't blame you because frankly, despite and indeed sometimes because I am one, I hate the fandom myself because there are plenty of horribly retarded things about it just like any subculture, I.E. some of the terminology. I personally hate using the word "Fursona" to describe my anthropomorphic alter ego.
Something to take to the grave, "Fandom in any form is incredibly annoying for those individuals who are not fans."

As for me, I have nothing against furies. It's just something they enjoy to do. I enjoy video games, I wouldn't enjoy being attacked for liking them, so I wouldn't attack a furry for enjoying...furry things.

Of course, part of me having nothing against furies is because I have met one. She was a generally normal person and pretty nice to be honest. She just enjoyed certain things that I didn't and there is nothing wrong with that.

I'm an artist, and in my fantasy world, all types of creatures exist. This standpoint has forced me to cross paths with this mystical land of drama and weirdness that the Furries call home.

Personally, I thrive in it. I troll as often as physically possible (not on the escapist, of course. You guys are cool, and therefore safe from my wrath). It's so easy and fun to do that it's almost a crime not to. That being said, trolling is not about hating. It's about the lulz. I don't hate furries at all. I just think they need to stop taking themselves so seriously.

--

Now, I passingly dabble in psychology, so I apologize if my ignorance offends someone more well-versed than I:

I find the Furry fandom as a whole to be an utterly understandable/normal psychological phenomenon. There are so many factors that could open a person's eyes to socially acceptable aspects to the fandom. If you ever enjoyed an anthropomorphic character on TV as a kid (or adult), you already know the draw.

What separates you from what I'd consider a true furry is this:

Even if you (a non-furry) fantasize about characters with animal traits, or about having them yourself, fantasy is fantasy. It doesn't go any farther than your imagination and comfort zone allows you to take it.

With a furry, they really believe their fantasy goes farther than that. This can be for several reasons -- Maybe they were tormented teenagers who found the subculture during an "I hate humanity(everyone)" phase. There are more religions with animal gods/spirits than there are monotheistic religions (Christianity based or otherwise). This makes Spirituality a readily available means of defending this mentality.

"Humans are disgusting destructive creatures so F**K YOU I'M A DRAGON!" one might say. Whether or not this mentality is the majority rule, I have no clue. I've met both this type and reasonable types of furries in relatively equal numbers.

On the other hand, anyone that says this is a fetish based fandom is either trolling for a flame-war or extraordinarily misinformed. Humans are naturally sexual creatures. Sex is an integral part of our social makeup as a species. If a person believes themselves to be in part or in whole another race on the inside, it's only a matter of time before they begin to sexualize the subject matter they identify with. This is a clear indication that the fetish came after the fandom.

This does, however mean that no matter what anyone claims, if you visualize yourself as non-human, you do or will sexualize it eventually. There is no way around this unless you happen to be asexual (celibate by nature).

Anthropomorphism of any kind has this same limitation. If you give an animal human characteristics, sexuality will eventually come into the equation. If you think about it, this is a proven truth. Think back to your cartoons; Do you not remember female characters "turning on" the male characters? Even in innocence, this connotes sexuality. It's only a stroll around the corner from "fox guy boning Mewtwo."

Either way, whatever floats your boat, as long as it doesn't infringe on other's rights. Just don't act so amazed when someone calls you out on your cub-tentacle-rape-scat fetish 'cause you were too stupid to keep it to yourself.

Edit: By the way, I forgot to mention something important; The true definition of a fetish is a sexual deviation that is required for sexual arousal. In other words, for it to count as a fetish, it must be necessary for the individual to become aroused. E.g., a foot fetish literally means you only find feet to be attractive. This is not psychologically normal and it obviously isn't a fair label for most furries.

Actually, Zeekar

" I just think they need to stop taking themselves so seriously."

That is partly true. Because noone takes furries serious we take ourselves serious cause noone else does, wich is amplified by people trolling, mocking because 'it's fun' to do. Personally never understood the fun of trolling.

And while we'r on the topic of furstuiters. Everybody does realise that not everyone is having sex in them suits right (I hope?)? Some just wear the suit cause they feel it's part of their nature or their desire to be closer to their 'fursona', the 'persona' variant within the fandom. Some just like to wear those suits and make people smile or laugh, like a big mascotte, but then to their own selfimage, rather then some hawk in a football shirt if yo ucatch my drift.

Hmm, you seem to have a brain, a rarity in these kind of threads. It's always either people bitching about furries, furries bitching about non-furries, and us smart ones being ignored.
Also, I do like the hentai side of furry, but not what AngloDoom is talking about, the rape-orgy-sick fuckery. Just no.
And speaking of Horo, and said R34 is what made me think about watching that as my new anime series to watch.

Anyway, carry on my wayward son people, this is getting good.

Well I do hate to blow my own horn, but I've been lead to beleive living with people bitching about things and those things in return ***** back while being totally ignored is how you get your brain. Sparks of genius underlying the desolate waste of ash.

Incedently, if you are considering to watch Spice and Wolf, I'll have to admit that it can be a bit tedious at first. However it has its financial sense part wich you'd never get from most other things anime, while its action scenes I think could well be worth the wait. So I'd half recommend it to the veiwing intellectuals.
