My question:

You find yourself in front of two doors.

Behind one, is the perfect life. The perfect house, the perfect spouse, the perfect job, basically ultimate happiness.

Behind the other, a blood thirsty axe-murderer hellbent on killing the first person to open the door in the most grueling, inhumane way imaginable.

You don't know which door is which.

Do you open a door, or do you walk away?

Post any other moral questions like these that you might know.

EDIT: If you open the death door, you WILL die, no escape.

I'd open the door.

Why? You said AXE murderer. I can counter that with a pistol. And even if I didn't have a pistol, I could always just close the door before he gets out, and open the other door :D

That's not a moral choice. That's a gambler's choice.

And hell no. I'll take my chances with my life. I like to think I have a greater-than-even chance of surviving.

Like the guy who first responded and NeutralDrow said, it's not a moral choice.

I wouldn't because I'd like to stay safe with my current life. If I was desperate and close to suicidal, on the other hand, I'd open a door. Either I'd finally die (remember the suicidal part) albeit in a painful way, or finally be happy.

Wait... This isn't a 'moral' choice. How does this pertain to morality at all? I mean, seriously.

I'd walk away. But not because I'm opposed to taking risks, but because even assuming there was a 100% chance of picking the right door, it wouldn't be worth it. Just having "ulimate happiness" thrust upon me would cheapen it and I imagine I'd get bored of absolute perfection given enough time. Half the fun of life is seeking to improve it. You can't improve on perfection.

I'd take the chance. If I'd die, tough luck, at least it'll be quick and hopefully mostly painless. If I get the right door I've fulfilled my life's aim. My whole philosophy is basically about trying to make my life as good as possible until I die. Your choice would only speed up one of each for me.

THESE are questions designed to test your moral state:

What do you do?

Case 1:
You're a student in your final year of study. Because of the economic climate, you've been forced to live with your grandmother. She's a tattoo artist, with parkinsons' disease, and every time she makes you a cup of coffee, she shakes so much she froths up the milk which is something you can't stand. You have... a hammer.

Case 2:
You're an upwardly mobile merchant banker. Your girlfriend has just gotten pregnant. You feel a child at this point in time could be detrimental to your future career prospects. You have... a coathanger.

Good luck.

To be honest the "perfect" life sounds painfully boring, i'd open the door hoping for the axe murderer, if im gonna die i would rather it was quick

I wouldn't attempt it, both choices suck. Even if you pick the correct door, what is the point of having everything handed to you on a platter, where is the sense of acomplishment, pride, and then what do you strive for once you have everything you want?

Sure everyone likes a leg up here and there to help you on your way, but its much better to earn your way, imo.

I pay someone 5 bucks to open the door. I follow if he lives.

Seriously: I don't. A perfect world is boring. If I lived in a perfect world then I would open the door for some excitement.

Given my luck with gambling I'd walk away and continue betting on the horses like I normally do. Come on number 5! Oh it ran 6th... good idea not to open that door.

I wouldn't open any of the doors, but not because I was too scared but because neither option seems like the thing I want for my life to lead to.

but if it truly was a perfect life then you would not get bored of it. in fact if you would become happy by living at the bottom of a septtic tank then that's where you would go after opening the door.

OT: I would put a string around one of the door handles and open it from far away and then use a firearm or some spear shaped object to beat the axe guy if it was the wrong door.
