Which type of trailer do you think is more helpful to understand a game? Gameplay or Cinematic? With Gameplay trailers to see what the games mechanics are and how you will be playing it? On the other hand do you like to see the cinematic trailers where it show the most action packed/story based moments? Please explain your answer.

I prefer gameplay because it lets you see the game for what is it is instead of showing off the non-playable action parts of the game. For example Dragon Age: Origins Sacred Ashes trailer it was a cinematic trailer that showed amazing fast paced fights that turned out to be misleading.

More helpful to understand a game, and is a better method of basing a purchasing decision? Gameplay.

Sells better, and is better marketing in practice because people are idiots? Cinematic.

A Quick look on Giant Bomb. Fuck trailers, they never show anything except what the publisher wants you to see.

Gameplay absolutely. Although they mislead you a lot less, they still do mislead you. Because the gameplay trailers are never actual gameplay videos, but the very best bits of it, organized in a seamless flow of stimulating audiovisual commercial.

I don't trust any trailers. They tell you something about the game, but you should never take them thinking "oh, this is exactly what the game will be from the very start".

Yah, I try to get the demo but that is still not a great way to know how the game will be.

/thread. You can make anything look good for 3 minutes. Seeing gameplay footage actually lets you see the pace of a game, the mechanics in action, etc.
