Poll: Games as Art?

(Ok, this topic has probably been done a few times before but I did a search and nothing came up on the forums.)

What do you think? Do you consider video games art? I understand that this is a gaming website and most of you will probably agree with me in saying that they are but for every amazing jaw droping cinamatic or great story there is a repetative, broken mess. Do you consider game devolpers/coders/desighners artists? Why do you think modern art critics don't consider video games art? I mean doesn't Bauldurs gate have a better story than a summer action blockbuster and those summer blockbusters are considerd art. Feel free to answere as many as these questions as you want.

This has been a hot, repetitive topic for the past several months, ever since the ebert comments that games aren't art and never will be.

So, your search skills surely leave much to be desired.

Generally, most games are not art, in my opinion. You can't fail at art *unless you post your own crap on deviant art.*

"Art" is way to vague of a term. I mean based on what has already been called art, anything that creates entertainment by indulging in it. You could try and say it's only art without your input, but that makes art look a less "artsy."

Anyway, games as art depends on your definition of art, and everybodys definition of art is different or at least varies in some way from someone elses, so you will never ever get a definitive answer on a topic that is this subjective.

Searching "Games as art" indeed doesn't turn up anything. The escapist forum search sucks though. So it's no surprise.

OT: I think games can be art, but they're not a form of art.

We get one of these topics at least once a day here on the escapist. (In fact, this is the 2nd or 3rd one today). How is it that the search doesn't bring up anything?! Bah.

The search bar is a mess. People are too uptight about it anyways.
