Poll: Gaming is "...juvenile, silly, and intellectually lazy" says Jonathan Blow.

He might be a bit over the top, but i agree with what he´s saying. Only game i can think of that seems to be dealing with a lot of heavy and mature subjects in an intellectual way is I have no mouth and i must scream, and that was ages ago.

And yeah Journey, Dear Esther and Collosus could be mentioned, but while being beautiful and well made they don´t really say that much about anything.

Would you feel offended if i use this opportunity to shamelessly promote a game i like that its both FUN AND INTELLECTUALLY MADE OF AWESOME to prove that Blow-man is trying to not only trying to take down mainstream games but also other indie games by saying that indie only makes arty games and anything else is just as dumb as the mainstream ones?
Honestly, it would surprise me if Blow just said that outright.

It's weird, because Blow doesn't seem to understand why someone would someone would play Minecraft to build their own golden cock & balls. Or why someone would play a game like Madden, or even hop into a game of Call of Duty.

Maybe it's me, but something about his whole demeanor bothers me. It's like he wants to be this great thinker, writer, art guy in one; on the other hand, he's got paper yet he spent himself into deep debt with some game projects until Braid dropped and thinks his bank account number was a fictional number... despite being deep in debt before that. I see a guy who's so concerned with being gaming's Aristotle that he forgets certain real-world realities.

Braid was a good game, but not really that gameplay deep or that great. The ending's open interpretation was a nice thing though.

Strange, because he does have a point.
I guess that he is SHOCKED that the crow that CRIES for the "Videogames are Art" are not defending it. Not because he thinks the game doesnt qualify but instead, he is shocked that no one uses it as an example/counterargument for Ebert's "Games will never be art"

Now, i am not saying that every person in the world that play video games NEEDS to bully Ebert with hate mail but i kinda see the gambit of Blow. He wanted all those people to elevate his game to godhood so it becomes a Sacred Cow that NO ONE will DARE to call a bad game or a bad ANYTHING.

I understand the egomanitical desire of going for a Magnus Opus right away instead of a videogame like IJI where it merges both gameplay and story pretty well (something that even games today doesnt even reach since Deus Ex) He probably would have succeded if he did just that but he aimed for the almost nonexistant "Games as Art" crow, who not even them know exactly what Art is supposed to mean.

Well, Journey teach the valuable lesson of NOT listening to anyone during gameplay or else the magic will be lost.

Let that be a lesson for the kids. As long that not a single creature on Earth speak to one another and keep their opinions on their asses, the world will be a beautifully place.

Trully, words of wisdom :D

I knew there was a reason I had zero interest in Braid or anything else he's done. He won't get any of my money. Now to Youtube to find a Let's Play.

I bought and played it, and I found that above all, "Braid" is incredibly overrated, and I thank the heavens that the gaming scenario is NOT how this pretentious douchebag would envisage it.

Jon Blow is a definite genius. Anyone who testifies has no idea what art is and has never created a thing. Blow is the best video games have, and everyone should know it. It's a shame everyone is idiots.
