Hands down, desktops are better in terms of performance per dollar spent. There are other concerns which can make laptops superior, but if all you're worried about is performance, go with a desktop. There's less heating issues and the hardware is flat-out better for the same amount of money.
Also, don't buy from Alienware. They add a ridiculous amount of money to the charge, where you end up paying almost double what the thing is actually worth. Your best bet is to build it yourself out of parts from Newegg. If you are incapable of/don't want to do that, Falcon NW and Origin PC are both better options for pre-built machines.

Since you didn't want to force the point too far, I'll just say this and drop it: For every game that gets released on the Mac, there are at least FIVE others that are released on the PC, and none of the Mac games are Mac exclusive.floobie said:
OK, now, personal take, about 90-99% of the time you're going to want desktop, for all the reasons stated. However, in the rare occasion that your career has you away from home more often than not, then your only real option is a laptop. If you're choosing a laptop so you can game while watching TV...first off, I have to question what kind of low-attention-span games you're playing (*coughWoWcough*) and second...just get a cheap laptop to stream TV beside your desktop. I have a laptop that's over 5 years old, and while it can't game for shit, I can watch damn near anything on it.
alienware nothign. dekstop beats laptop, build your own and you can have somethign that is highest end for the next ten years for 900 euros. i build my own and it is EASY. just read the manals you get covered in in and watch a youtube vid for a general idea of build order.UNKNOWNINCOGNITO said:

Gaming laptops are for people who either have so little free time they can only play games during public transport commutes, for people who travel so much they spend more time out of home than in it, or for people who simply HAVE to be able to game in every home of their house (I cannot think of a single legitimate reason why this would be the case)

gotcha, I guess it also depends on the deals you can nail down, and the power of your system that you want. For instance a laptop can only get so powerful, while a desktop has far more possibilities.

Perhaps you're misinformed. I didn't feel like doing another build and I wanted a warranty, so I bought an Aurora R3. i7 2600k, gtx560, 8gb ram, 2TBs worth of hard drive, and the kicker, with the liquid cooling and case layout in general, underload in a heated room, its never gotten above 29c in any zone. I only paid ~$1500 shipped with a 3 year warranty that covers any kind of damage. Their prices on their base model systems have dropped like a rock in the last 6 months, and to me, it's worth the premium for the warranty and support.ToastiestZombie said:

Crysis 2 is less demanding than 1, Metro, whilst lovely, is badly optimised and you'd be hard-pressed to find anything in a reasonable price range that runs it on max - as well as the difference in settings being hardly noticable. Besides I was arguing that it runs them better than averagely - not metro on max good, but still far better than average, but metro is just a retarded standard to set. I have been thinking of getting a new computer as well, and while I've considered building my own with my rotten luck I would cross two wires and blow myself and the computer up. That being said I was thinking of purchasing a Sony - VAIO L Series All-In-One Computer / Intel Core i7 or a Toshiba - All-In-One Computer / Intel Core i7 Processor, but I can't tell which is truly superior when it comes to their graphic's card.
