Lately I've been thinking about the way I perceive myself in real life compared to the way I portray myself in most RPG's. In the real world I'm more the stealthy type that relies on wits more than brawn but can use both when it comes down to it. In game I'm usually a juggernaut that can go toe to toe with multiple enemies and come out virtually unscathed but sometimes have to break down doors because turning the knob is way too complicated. I think the only that doesn't really change between my real life personality and my in game personality is my alignment. Based on the good ol' Dungeons and Dragons alignment system I almost always fall towards Chaotic Good.

So how about yourselves. When you're playing a game do you base your character, even if loosely, off of how you would perform in real life or do you create a completely fictional rrendering of yourself? And if you don't mind describe how your personalities are the same or different.

no matter what character type i play in oblivion, i always revert to the stealth type, which is how i'd do it in rl, if it ever came to that.

I'm not sure I have a personality in games. I just play them. I do not care much for characters and storyline, so I wouldn't find myself in a position where I can be labelled as anything.

Addendum; Realized my comment wasn't relative, I guess I didn't read the OP.

I would say I tend to be everything that isn't the brute type. I usually like mages of sorts, but tend to choose stealthy and agile personae as well.

Addendum 2.0; Oh my, forgot to explain how it compares to my real self. I guess it would fit pretty well, I mean, I can't cast spells or anything, but I like to consider myself as a intelligent type.

How does one get the chance to be stealthy in day to day life?

Often my gaming persona is quite similar to how I act in actual life, though I'll often replay a game a force myself to play a role that isn't really me.

In games i tend to be the bash bash bash type where if theres something i want i'll kill the person then take it. However in real life i'm more stealthy.

I tend to use stealth in games, as I would in real life.
I pretty much do the same as I would in real life.

Skipping classes and assignments by dodging teacher confrontations, perhaps =P.

I guess it depends. I'm mostly myself (kind, helpful, and all that), but I can be out of character if I want to (playing the evil side). I also seem to have a predisposition towards Archers and Mages. In real life, I wish I knew magic and/or I wish I were a bird (cookie to whoever gets the reference)
I just wish the evil side of games were more Scheming Evil rather than Stupid Evil (looking at you KOTOR 2).

Depends on the game. I have much less patience and tend to be a dick in games that I play way too much, but other games I'm just really laid back.

I change a lot over different games. Some RPGs, for example, I take the long route, gathering all the pointless shit along the way, grinding my characters and only taking on the major plot points when I'm like ten levels above the enemies/what I should be. Others, I just like to blast everything that moves, but rush as fast as I can through the plot, seeing how low a level I can do it at (I mean, on the ones where they don't scale the enemy's level to yours). The sense of satisfaction is just greater when you do it at a point when you shouldn't be able to, for example, taking the Elite Four on in Pokemon Red with a team of level 35s. I still have no idea how I did it, but I did, and it was AWESOME.

IRL, however, I am a sneaky ninja when it matters (being able to notice people when they haven't seen me and spy on them to my heart's content whilst not ever being found, having crazy ninja reflexes and being a supergenius help a lot).

my choice of weapons in "real life" are the same as they are the same in game's.

so I guess my game Personality is the same as my real Personality.

I don't necessarily act that way, most of the time, but it fits me better. I can sneak up on most people without trying and can blend in in most enviroments.

Also, in real life I'd prefer using a long range weapon but in game I want to be up close and personal.

i usually do whats most fun or if difficult which is easiest
for example in oblivion go invisible go behind enemy go stealth and sneak bonus easy kill.
also with a moral choice i mostly do the good thing unless its got a big disadvantage
