So, recently a male friend told me that he can only play male characters in games which I found quite odd as I don't really mind playing females, he also said that he doesn't mind so much if the characters are defined and it's only if he creates his own, so there's that too, so my question to you is... in the poll, I ain't gonna write all that again, what am I? A guy who's not lazy?! Hah!

And if you'd like to give descriptions as to why you think you're like this then that'd be great =)
And yes I am aware that similiar threads have been done but hopefully this one is different enough to not garner complaints >.>
And if you're wondering what I mean by 'defined characters', that's like in Resident Evil 5 where you get to choose between Chris and Sheva And that's as opposed to Terraria where you can make your own character and call it Metropolis Zanzibar (a much nicer name)
And I have used the words 'And' and 'gender' so much that they don't seem like words anymore...

I don't like playing female characters if custimization is involved. I like playing male like myself.

I started this thread yesterday on the same topic: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.343451-Playing-as-a-Different-Gender

Its at the top of page 2 right now... not hard to find >.>

(Now I know what the one guy meant when he said, "this has been discussed thousands of times here)

I usually play the opposite gender ? mostly to silently judge the game, to see if the opposite role was shoehorned in. The only time I didn't do this was during Mass Effect, because I hated the female voice actor.

So I'm going for the opposite gender when I create them option.

Depends on the game. Something like Saints Row or Fallout 3, I play as a guy.

But if I'm playing an MMO or Skyrim or something (not that I actually play either of those things...) I'll usually play a female, for the simplest reason.

If I'm gonna be staring at a character's ass for hours on end, it might as well be a nice one.

I like to playboth genders. To me the important thing is how cool the characters are.

But if I played a game like WoW or Skyrim, I would play as a male, since there is a lot of interaction and I am a male.

So basically I play male if I have to make my own story and either if it is another charcter story. Mass Effect to me count as a another person story.

I find it easier to get involved in the game's story if my character is female. I guess it's because it's more of a disconnect, so I don't feel pressured to act like myself, and can instead build on the character.

I certainly have no issue at all with playing either gender. If given the choice, however, I do find myself generally picking a character of the opposite gender.
