I like to give gifts and a lot of the time I'll treat my friends to a movie or something if I have the extra money, but if a guy on the street asks me for money, I'm not likely to give it to him. I'm not very trusting to begin with, and too many people try to scam others for extra cash. I give a lot to the Shriners (not sure if you guys are familiar with them; they're a Masonic affiliation. You'd know them because they were the funny hats and drive the tiny cars at parades) and the Salvation Army guys outside of Kroger's though :-D And at stores when they have a jar for a kid with cancer or something; my change goes right in there.

I am Scrooge incarnate... I really don't like giving money to people, unless they either really need it, or it'll help me out later on. 'Course, there are a few exceptions here and there.

I think I would categorize stuff like opening doors for people under being polite, not generosity. And I usually try to hold the door for anyone. Do any of you remember seeing some commercial about being polite? One person would help another, and then the person that was helped would help someone else and so on. I kind of believe that if you are polite to someone you can make their day. Although, there are times that I say screw it. I guess it depends on my mood.

With my friends and family, we tend to pay for each other here and there. As for complete strangers, I don't see the point in giving to someone I don't know (unless it is something along the lines of a charity of sorts).

And getting a check for $100 from the Government? I would probably just use it for daily life (bills, food, etc.).

I'm "meh". I give if someone asks for help/money or if it is clear they are in need of help/money but I don't ever go out of my way to help people. Chances are they wont do anything to help me so why should I help them?

If my friends need something, I would bend heaven and hell to do so, knowing that they would do the same for me.

Having said that, throwing money at problems rarely (if ever) solves said problem. Money isn't the solution to everything; rarely is it a solution to everything. A lot of times, the obvious solution isn't the right solution; by way of an example, let's say that there are people starving in a certain part of the world because a vicious warlord who siezes any food grown. Obvious solution; send food. Did it work? No. You need to upsur the warlord so the people can eat.

Apologies for the cynical streak. I've had a bad week.
