Poll: GFWL Improving?

So I decided to sign into my GFWL client today as I felt like playing some more DoW2.

I checked the marketplace quickly to see a larger quantity of games for download.

This isn't new LIVE games these are older ones but they have a decent-ish albeit expensive selection.

I saw Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl for £14.99 direct download on there.

Personally I quite like GFWL as I use it for 3 games. I just think it needs more backing and for the developers to actually try and make it useful.

Could this mean GFWL will ever so slightly improve or just fail over again?

I added a poll as it seemed appropriate here o_O

EDIT: Just as a side not... can we stop all the hate to GFWL and the Superiority surrounding steam in this thread? I was hoping for a discussion on the future of GFWL not on what's your favourite.

Seeing as I play DoW almost chronically, I've come to love and respect GFWL in time. At the moment I see it as similar to steam. But more white and not blacky/grey and a slightly slower friend invite system. But beyond that, I rather enjoy using it and it does need more backing :)

No sir, I don't like it. It's probably going to be with us for a while though and I doubt that the games that use it will ever be patched so they are cleaned up and don't need it any more.

Am I the only person who had to look up this acronym? Seems kinda obscure considering basically nobody uses it (at least I sure as hell hope nobody uses it).

No you are not. As of today I have never even heard of it.

Steam is better known and will be ahead of this GFWL stuff, but I would not dare to say if GFWL would 'die out' because of steam. I don't use either btw.

Hopefully it'll die.

Here's an example of how much MS themselves give a shit about it:

Someone at PC Gamer (this was in the latest UK podcast) asked a guy at MS on what they were planning to integrate GfWL better (I think this was to do with Windows 7 at the time) and he said he'd never heard of it.

GFWL is the worst gaming interface. What it does is to reduce your game's performance and crash occasionally.

I doubt it is a priority for them. I would say they have a team doing updates on it and maintaining it, but thats about it. Your gonna see minor improvements at best and I really don't see them claiming what steam has done.

GFWL will get slightly better over time, but not before Steam will have become the de facto standard (if it is not already).
All Steam needs to fully kill the competition is for it to be split from Valve, and allow publishers more control over it and allow indie publishers to sell on Steam without needing to go through weird Valve approval processes first.
This will happen sooner or later, by which time GFWL will still be the mess it is now.

GfWL is terrible, the only improvement would be if it dropped of the face of the earth.

Every single plus point GfWL has, Steam punches it in the face and does it better.

The only reason it is used at all by anyone is because it keeps being forced in.

Cross platform games with 360?... had to throw that one in there.

Also I use it because I genuinely quite like it as well as it being packaged with DoW 2, I was more annoyed that I was forced to install steam. o_o

Shadowrun and Universe at War. Any more? Yeah, considering how much it's used and how much GfWL sucks, I think I can sacrifice playing against the 360 folks.

There is a mod to remove Get Fucked from Fallout 3 and I wouldn't install GTAIV because it required it (and a bunch of other bullshit) that is all I know about Get Fucked. I know GFWL doesn't actually stand for Get Fucked Windows Losers, I also know that.

Lost Planet and Game Room, plus the PC version of BlazBlu that comes out later this year.

GFWL is way better than Steam, in my opinion. Games for Windows has only gotten better and better. I think this year will be great. Microsoft has Fable 3, Flight Sim LIVE and the new game 'Spartan' all in development. It just has a bad rep, like Vista did when it launched. Vista now, is way better than XP ever was. Of course, both are trumped by 7.
