I think some bands should just stop after they've gone thorugh too many band players.
Like Metallica or Iron Maiden and Three days grace.

Metallica (sp?) should stop, I don't think they have any of the original members.

Popularity should weigh in the decision. For example, Metallica's new album still sold pretty well, so obviously some folks are still listening. No, they shouldn't give it up. Oh, and they only have replaced the bassist; since Cliff Burton, the original one, was killed they kind of had to. Although they did replace the replacement.

Iron Maiden, as much as it pains me to say it, even with the old lineup restored, they're kind of beating a dead horse. I haven't bought an album since Seventh Son of a Seventh Son.

Three Days Grace... Who cares?

I don't think that shifting in band members should validate the disbanding of a band. Sure Led Zepplin quit after John Bohnam died, but there are good examples of a band getting better or not really changing at all with shifting band mates. Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Death and Slayer are 3 4 that come to mind.

What about ACDC?
They are really old, they fell of the face of the Earth for a bit then came back as strong as ever. Are you suggesting they should retire?

I heard a few years ago that the surviving members of Queen we having a comeback by working with, well I am unsure if its westlife, n'suck or whatever but ya, a generic boy band. If your career gets to that level then yes, its time to retire.
How mind-numbingly frightening. All tapes left in a car for a fortnight may start playing "The Best of Queen and Nsync" instead.

EDIT: Some Should is winning. Escapists ambiguous response FTW.

Its just that at my high school I'm surrounded by metal-heads always listening to those bands,

On the bus to an' from our free period does'nt care if we listen to music but they listen to their music so loud.

Metallica and AC/DC are still fine. Why would they quit? The only ones that should stop are the truly dead ones. Granted if the lead singer of your band is dead it might be time to call it quits, but Queen is still really good in my books.

I don't care I don't like those bands. And besides Reel Big Fish (a band I like) has gone through nearly a dozen lineup changes and the only original remaining band member left is the front man. I still love them and hope they continue the madness.

Three Days Grace??? They suck but they're relitively new.
On to the matter at hand, Bands should stop playing when they want. It's their music, and their choice. You don't have to listen to it.

Wait, so you want bands to stop making music because their fans play their music too loud?
...hmmm Boo-frickity-hoo for you, either tune it out or play your own music.

P.S: 3 days grace =/= metal, and their fans are NOT metal heads, that is condescending to fine upstanding metal heads everywhere.

Bands that are good but are old defently should not quit. But if a band is old they shouldent release an album just to try to ring out a couple more dollars from there hard core fanboys and supporters.

I got a pang of nonexistent nostalgia (I wasn't around for their glory days) after I saw this video. Yes, that's a bass he's playing.

Too old to rock ´n´ roll, too young to die, eh. Now why should they quit, if they still enjoy their profession of choice. One can always stop buying their albums, though.

I feel sorry for you. Even though I like said bands (as much as every other band), too much too loud is too much too loud. It gets irritating.

i thought newstead left to do a side project?

but no, old bands should play on, know why? becasue people still like them and will still want to go and see them. i'd still pay to see the rolling stones and those buggers must be pushing 60 by now

METALLICA WILL NEVER DIE.
They're awesome. They even released a new album in 2008, even though they are decades old. But I think some bands, specifically the ones that can't stay together and go through 50 band members (*cough cough* Queens of the Stone Age *cough*) really need to give it a rest.

And if you don't know what I mean with Queens of the Stone Age, then first go listen to "Little Sister," and then "Sick Sick Sick." I don;t even know if that is chronologically correct, but whenever "Sick Sick Sick" came out, they should have stopped. Right there.
