Am I the only one whose care cup is empty for Godfather II? Godfather 1 was (IMO) a sub-par GTA clone that had about as much to do with the movies as tuna has to do with the current economic crisis and unless they seriously step up their game(literally) then I really think it'll jsut be another over-hyped waste of time.

I have to disagree.

While I am not holding my breath for it i quite enjoyed the first Godfather game in a popcorn game kinda way. It appeals to a pick up and play over a weekend thing. I would not recomment purchasing it but to rent or bum from a friend for a few hours of fun why not. Don't believe in disregarding a game unless it is actually broken, a game not living up to its hype is just a fact of our hobby the sooner one ignores the hype the more enjoyment can be had from games in general.

I'm putting it in my -wait n' see- pile. I did like the first game and thought it was pretty entertaining, though it had a lot of flaws. I have a bad feeling that the sequel is going to be an arrogant release, it's from EA after all. Passionate development doesn't usually coincide with the EA developmental war machine.

Though, you never know.. will wait and see.

I agree with that immensely sir. I'm not saying the hype has anything to do with why I believe this game to be a waste of effort. I could come across this game on the shelf of a local game store having never heard of it and I would have the same "guffaw, chuckle, chuckle" reaction. The first one jsut wasn't all that great and we all know that EA is not real big on the "reflect on flaws and improve" formula, so I doubt this one will be any better. I'm pretty sure all they'll do is take the first one's engine and add an extra coat of glossy blood colored paint.

My care cup is bone-dry, I saw a few videos and it just looks ridiculously juvenile, the executions etc.

I do agree with you there. In all likelyhood it will just be a repackaging with prettier graphics, but similar if not identical tasks. They will probably upgrade the control interface or change the options but the whole pressure interrogation minigames will probably be there as well.

Thus the differences we have when it comes to this game are based on our opinion of the quality of the first game, therefore I retract my previous statement regarding ignoring the hype.

From what I've seen, the game looks like a pitiful effort for a next-gen game. It looks like The Sims but with actual violence..

Why are we talking in future tense? The game is out already. And it's.... *drum roll*... mediocre.

I thought Godfather 1 was good. I hate to admit it, but once you've finished all the mob wars and become the don yourself, I guess that means you like a game. However, it was INCREDABLY cheesy placing your character as the guy who put the horse head in the mans bed and drove Michel to the airport after his first murder for the family (after which he sticks his head out the window spraying everything in his path). I liked the idea of tying your character into the story from the movie, as a sort of behind the camera element, but for christ sake!!! He was at every major event that took place in the movie! This makes the game hard to believe and takes merit away from itself by doing so. Godfather 2 will do the exact same thing. If you ask me, the only great game translated from film was The Warriors.

Also, I would rather play Mafia 2. That looks somewhat promising and offers an original story line (it has nothing to do with the character from the 1st game, obviously).

It is? Damn, missed the boat on that one. Still going to add it to my gamefly list though mediocre or not
