Alot of people think the new Google Maps is a bad idea, and whoever has gone on it can see why. It invades personal privacy. Then again, what doesn't in media nowadays? This is just invasion of privacy on a bigger scale.

Those in the media itself who have commented on the new system have said that certain things such as "a man vommiting", "a man exiting a sex shop" and several "people swearing" over the world shouldn't be published. On the other hand, it's all extremely funny.

The biggest issue that's been raised is public nudity. People stepping out their door in a dressing gown to pick up their daily paper or people tanning in their front garden can be seen in certain areas. Also, young children outside their houses with no clothing have been snapped, but immediately removed after.

Google claims they're doing nothing wrong, but what do you think?

PS: Feel free to post any funny images in the thread. Scrolling though Amsterdam, you can find alot of people smoking cannabis and so on which is always a laugh.

If not, then basically it's illegal to look at someone's house, since that is all google maps is doing.

If you can't a picture on the street because it records someone's property, kiss photos goodbye. That of course would never happen.

Everyone's privacy is already non-existent. Seriously, if someone wants info, they can get it. Google maps just allows normal, everyday people to do it. That said, I really don't like the idea of satellites being able to see me no matter where I am. It's just creepy, you know?

I saw one of the photo's being taken, and I was in my right mind to stand next to the people taking it, therefore the camera rotated 360 degrees around us, and I wasn't in the photo.

Well, they don't have the on the street photos where I live, so there is no loss of privacy. For me it is just a useful tool to find addresses, or to randomly look at places around the world.

i think it's kinda cool and even with street view they are pretty good with telling communities when they're driving thru

it's even caused more than one place to stage something for when the truck goes by

You do realize that you can't be seen if you're under a roof or other covering when they take the picture right?

google maps takes a picture and lets you view the different areas... if it was a live feed then get rid of it.. but its not doing anything wrong now..

Well i would not like the idea of that thing caching me buying sex toys and then show that to the world. But the odds of that happening are so remote that i don't really care.
Some dude put a complaint since google didn't blur his face as he came out of a soho sex shop, brown paper bag in hand no doubt!.

I have a Garmin GPS, but I still use google street view before I leave the house so I can see what the place looks like before I get there. It's a great tool to have. If people choose to go outside in their underwear and that's when the picture's taken, deal with it. You went out in your underwear anyway, so you can't be that embarrassed.

Anyone who gets upset over this evidently hasn't been paying attention for years, because tons of military/government agencies have been able to view our homes for years. This is old news.

Yes, I do realize that. They haven't invented X-ray vision for satellites yet. However, when I walk toward my house and suddenly can't be seen anymore, they know I have entered my place of residence. Whenever I leave my house, I can be seen. Therefore, I can easily be "seen" anywhere by satellites.

On a side note, we may all be talking about different things. After viewing this thread, I went to google and clicked "maps." I was unable to see any people at all.

Doesn't Google blur everyone's faces or whatever?

Either way, the maps are handy. I like having them available.

Also, this. I went outside in my bloody PJs to get the goddamn cat back in the house, so if GoogleMaps snapped that, too bad for me.

.. And I'll blame the cat.

You have to turn on sattelite view on the map.

As for the other thing, if anyone really wanted to know, all they'd have to do is look up your residence in the phone book and wait outside your place for a day or two, most likely, and then they'd be able to follow you anywhere. It's really not any more invasive of your privacy to take pictures of your home at random hours of the day from 22,000 miles overhead.
