It depends what you're want. If you're into realism, GTA IV is the game you want. If you're into games with a lot more humour, then Saints Row 2 is what you want. Since they both cater to differing crowds, I can't pick one in this poll. I have both, and each catered to a different need and had their pros and cons.

I think GTA IV is an overall better game and I didn't have a problem with the realism. Actually, I thought the game was a little too easy at times but maybe I'm just a more skilled gamer than you. (no offence)

I love GTA series but GTA4 was a huge disappointment. It featured a boring story with boring characters and no fun whatsoever. Saints Row 2 however had all the fun I wanted and then some.

Saints Row 2. Because it is fun, Co-Op and you don't have to tell your cousin to piss off every 30 seconds.

Saints Row 2 hands down. I liked when Rockstar's games didn't take themselves so seriously.
I don't want realistic driving mechanics, I want to be able to do insanely stupid stuff and survive it only because I'm wearing a bullet proof vest. I like the lack of realism.

I haven't played SR2, simply because I lack the money, but I like GTAIV's story. It's a different style of GTA than the entries before it, and it alienated the old crowd. Those people are generally moving over to SR2 because it does things more like the older GTA games.

The controls? GTAIV's controls are fine, for me at least. I got used to the controls fairly quickly, and now I'm doing things I don't think the developers intended with cars. Still haven't tried racing, because they're kinda... ridiculous, but I love it.

Better radio: GTA IV
I'd have to disagree, I absolutely love the radio on Saint's Row 2. The stations are actually diverse, there's literally something for everyone. Don't like hip hip? No problem, have some Lamb of God to listen to. Don't like this modern stuff? Here's a station dedicated to 80s music

I feel that the radio stations on GTA games are far too limited, whereas Saint's Row 2 has a very wide range of music on offer
The variety and customization of the SR2 radio rocked but I have to say gta4 had more of my favorite tunes: spent most of my time on the classic and fusion jazz stations.
But personally,
Saints Row 2 was more fun for me. From the customization, to the variety of missions/tasks/sidemissions/activities/minigames/vehicles/weapons, to the scale, to the humor, [this list can keep going] SR2 was what some of us were hoping gta4 would be like.
Gta4 wasn?t bad exactly, it just wasn?t up to par with the amount of content you expect to find in a gta (and I wasn?t expecting as much as San Andreas but I was expecting more than what we got; at least the regular stuff like ambulance, miniguns, and tanks) and it seemed to take itself too seriously like a teenager with a badly grown mustache you want to smack off his face.
Anyone who likes to watch network tv crime dramas probably got a big kick out of it but I got a bigger kick out of testing the broader limits of SR2.

GTA IV, because I actually could sense emotions behind the characters actions, expressions and dialogue rather than what a comity of soulless marketing tossers decide is what "GAMERZ!!!!1" want.

Plus, and considering how bad the GTA IV controls are this is truly shocking, SR2's controls were the hardest part of the damned game. Seriously, the enemies were little more than an annoyance compared to the fucked up vehicle controls. I should not dread having to drive from location to location for fear the car will spaz out on me.

And another thing, BUGS!

When a game companies "Solution" to a problem is to recommend you disable your soundcard, you know the fuckers don't give a shit.

Matter of opinion I suppose but keep in my mid if you are a worshiper of GTA then GTA4 is not your style that's why SR2 is great it made a game to cater to the other side of GTA audiences

also love this advert for it

I like Saints Row 2 way better, but calling GTA4 realistic is hilarious, the only difference between it and San Andreas (a really great game), is that GTA4 lacks interesting vehicles and weapons. RIP Harrier Jet and M1 Abrams.

Saint's Row 2 wins hands down with me. I just couldn't stand GTA IV (although to be fair, I really do need to give it another shot). I mean I understand that Niko's world isn't black and white but more of a shade of grey, but that doesn't mean they had to make everything in it grey.

Definitely SR2 just because it had variety that didn't suck!
Plus you could turn around with Niko doing that creepy circle turn thing...
Which leads to controls! They handled much better in SR2 then in GTA4..
Plus in SR2 I could be a dude with spikey pink hair and a British accent running around in ladies underwear...Definite win!

For messing around with mates or taking out simple sadistic rage, Saints Row 2.

But for a challenging game with a fair story GTA 4.

I would be completley undecided but for one thing:

Saints Row 2 let me fly a Tri-plane into a Helicopter whilst dressed as the Joker.

This makes it a WIN.

saints row 2 is better as for game for character customization, better sandbox and more relaxed as it has less realism. GTA4 is better for realistic graphics and story.

Have to go with Saints Row 2 here! I liked GTA IV, but no more than liked. Niko was a pretty decent guy and he got into some mad antics with some funny characters. Saints Row 2? I got to play as a cockney gangter, dual wield revolvers whilst dressed as a ninja (or a pirate).

As far as characters go... well GTA IV maps out some nice NPCs and Niko is pretty cool. Saints Row 2 wins on the protagonist for me, mainly because he has enough personality to act bad ass, but just little enough for me to make him exactly how I want him. Plus Niko got a bit whiney at times. Saints Row 2 bad guys were pretty entertaining, Maero was a very entertaining villain.
