This is my second review on The Escapist's forums, and I hope that this one will help someone, and make someone see the game as what it generally is.
Graphics:9/10
Sounds:10/10
Music:8,5/10
Voice acting: 9,5/10
Game play:9/10
Story:8/10
All and All: 9/10 - Very good.
Generally
GTA IV takes place in Liberty City, where you take the role of Niko Bellic from (Enter some Eastern-European country here) and his really 'effing annoying cousin Roman. I believe, that everyone in this community has played a Grand Theft Auto game sometime in their lives, so I am going to cut this short: GTA IV is a sandbox game - basically everything you see, can be your toy (you can steal vehicles, beat random people, go on dates, do missions for various people, gain reputation (or vice versa) and have fun by doing anything you want. Although the gameplay sometimes receives a blow to it's head with a sledgehammer, where you have to drive your annoying cousin to various activities (bowling, pool, drinking, shows etc. [and for the record, they don't really work that well]).
Game play
All and all, the game play of GTA IV is really nicely varied. It doesn't get repetitive, the driving is nicely worked out (though most of the cars drive like tin cans on wheels) and the gun system works perfectly. Also, this is the first GTA game, where they introduced a covering mechanism - that works just fine (doesn't annoy you like the one in Call of Juarez:Bound in Blood). You can customize your looks by buying new clothes, you can change your arsenal by buying new guns and if you get bored - you can have as much fun as you possibly want (my personal ''bored'' time hobby [Note: The game barely got boring for me] is to shoot cops, and they call their friends, shoot their friends and so on. Most of the time of course I got shredded with so many bullets, that Archangel Michael would have gulped.
Music/Sounds/Voice acting
The sounds are all very nicely done - none of them get on my nerves by being either too high pitched, or just growling into your ear like a horny grizzly bear. The radio system on vehicles is nicely varied with lots of different channels that play different music (Although, I have to confess - the only channel, that plays music which my ears can take, is the Liberty City Rock radio [2 Favorites from that channel: ? - Edge of Seventeen and Dio - Heaven and Hell]). Voice acting is very well done, everybody sounds different, and whoever it was who assigned civvies (civilians) to be so goddamn annoying when you bump into them - thank you, you have provided me with a target rich environment.
Graphics
Not much to say here - the game looks nice. Although, the requirements for this game are pretty big (they even recommend Quad core processors [thankfully I have one]) and my PC sometimes received quite a lot of slowness and dragging - but it wasn't all that bad.
Finishing touch
Do I recommend buying this game ? Yes. If you have played any GTA games in the past (and I am almost certain that you have] then trying this one is a must be - it is fun, nicely varied and it doesn't get boring. Although, Roman and Brucie are very, very annoying.
Thank you,
Agrael
